Irvalene Haney's Obituary
Irvalene Haney Obituary
Ida Irvalene was born August 25, 1938, in Detroit, Michigan, to Marlin Monroe and Ruby Grace (Stephens) Cross. Irvalene’s father, who worked as a dispatcher in the auto industry during the Great Depression, was involved in a work-related accident in 1948. This event caused the family to move near a renowned neurosurgeon in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Educated in Tulsa, Irvalene would graduate from high school in 1956. On her 19th birthday, Irvalene and a friend decided to celebrate one evening after church by going for a coke at the Hub Drive-In. Being young and beautiful, she caught the eye of a Sergeant in the Marine Corps, Emmett “Bill” Haney, who was stationed in Tulsa. Bill asked Irvalene for her phone number and called her the next day for a date which she accepted. Bill proposed nine days later, and the couple married on November 29, 1957.
The Haney family grew with the birth of children: Scott, Lisa, and Joe. Jenks became home in 1974, where Irvalene worked as the City Court Clerk. She retired after a 13-year career.
Irvalene and Bill attended and were members at Park Plaza Church of Christ for many years. Their membership remained with the move to 96th and Garnett, where they became the Park Church of Christ.
Always up for an adventure, Bill and Irvalene bought an RV and for ten years toured the entire U.S. and Canada, preferring to winter in San Antonio, Texas. To celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary, Irvalene and Bill vacationed in Hawaii. Upon returning home, the couple decided they enjoyed Hawaii so much that they would sell their home in Jenks and move there! Irvalene loved the beach and seashells- this was her quiet time. They lived in Hawaii for five years before returning to Jenks.
Loved by everyone who knew her, Irvalene had many friends. She and her high school friends would still meet for a monthly lunch. Her headstrong personality earned her the title of “the strongest woman I’ve ever known.”
Irvalene passed away at her home on May 24, 2020. She was 81.
Those she leaves to cherish her memory are husband, Emmett “Bill” Haney; son, Scott Haney, and wife, Pat; daughter, Lisa Kurz, and husband, Ron; son, Joe Haney; grandchildren, Daniel and wife, Renata, Jon and wife, Lindsey, Mike and wife, Ruthie, and Paul; grandson, Daris Mickle and his mom, Staci; brother, Tyson Cross and wife, Leila; niece and partner in crime, Robbie Plas and husband, Steve; and nephew, Ty Cross and wife, Wendy. Along with a host of other relatives and friends.
