Glenice Kay Dame's Obituary
Glenice Dame Obituary
Glenice Kay Dame passed away on Sunday, March 10, 2024 in Tulsa at the age of 83. Born on November 15, 1940, to Walter Glen and Marna Mae (Mark) Staats, Glenice grew up on a farm in the close-knit rural community of Sylvia. She was an older sister to her brother Pat and had a large family of cousins in the area.
Glenice's childhood in Sylvia was marked by her vibrant involvement in the community. She held the prestigious position of drum major in the high school band at Sylvia High School, where she also served as head cheerleader and salutatorian. An accomplished saxophonist, Glenice's musical talents added to the charm of Sylvia's small but tightly woven community.
Family played a central role in Glenice's life. Raised in a large extended family, she cherished the bonds she shared with her cousins, who remained best friends throughout their lifetimes. Family reunions, characterized by warmth and togetherness, continued to be a strong tradition, reminiscent of a Norman Rockwell painting.
After attending Hutchison Junior College and Kansas State in Manhattan, KS, Glenice married her high school sweetheart, James Rex Dame. Together, they built a life that included two children, Jeffrey and Annette. Rex's successful career brought the family to Tulsa in 1973, where he pursued numerous business ventures.
Glenice dedicated many years of service to Thermo Tech Technologies and RW Holland, where she played a crucial role as an executive secretary, managing overseas shipping, billing, and all human resource-related matters. Her organizational skills and dedication held the workplace together until her retirement at the age of 75.
Outside of work, Glenice was a devoted mother who enjoyed weekends boating with her family at Ft. Gibson and Tenkiller lakes. Known for her meticulous nature, she instilled the value of organization in her children, maintaining an impeccably organized pantry and household.
A lover of music, Glenice was a dedicated Elvis Presley fan. She passed on her passion for sewing to her daughter Annette, showcasing her skills as a talented seamstress who created various garments for her children. Glenice also had a green thumb, tending to a beautiful and colorful flower garden and surrounding her home with thriving plants.
In the 90s, Glenice found companionship with Jim Coleman, and they shared many joyous years together until his passing in 2017. In retirement, she cherished moments spent with her grandchildren, leaving behind a legacy of love and care.
Glenice is survived by her children Jeffrey Dame and wife, Carla; Annette Barker and husband, Ed; grandchildren, Jessica, Ryan, Trevor, Samantha Jo, Matthew, Sean, and Luke; and 20 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. She is also survived by the father of her children, James Rex Dame. Glenice is preceded in death by her parents, her brother Pat, and life partner, Jim Coleman.
A funeral ceremony to honor Glenice Kay Dame will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, March 14, 2024, in the Rivercrest Chapel, followed by interment in the Prague Cemetery. The family will receive visitors on Wednesday from 6-8 PM.
