Glenda McElroy's Obituary
Born on October 21, 1939, in Welty, Oklahoma, Glenda was the daughter of E.G. and Ethel (Camp) Methvin. She grew up in the Sand Springs area, where she met the love of her life, James "Jim" McElroy. During her high school years, Glenda moved to Tulsa and graduated from Rogers High School. She and Jim were married on June 20, 1959.
Together, they made their home in Tulsa, where they welcomed and raised their two children: son, Kent, and daughter, Lori. In 1973, the McElroy family settled in Bixby, where they continued to build a life grounded in love, faith, and community. A devoted wife and mother, Glenda was a full-time homemaker who always put her family first. Kent fondly remembers her constant encouragement throughout his years in Bixby's baseball program-support that helped lead his team to a 1978 State Championship victory.
A woman of deep faith, Glenda was a charter member of South Tulsa Baptist Church. She served faithfully as a Sunday School teacher and treasured the fellowship of her church family. Outside of church, she remained closely connected to her Sand Springs classmates, enjoying reunions, travel, and local events.
Glenda was the glue that held her family together. She loved gathering her loved ones around the table and often expressed her love through cooking. Known affectionately as "Mamaw," she spent her final years surrounded by the comfort and care of her grandson A.J. and his wife, Kelly and children: Grayson and Everly.
Words like dedicated, faithful, supportive, and spiritually grounded describe Glenda well. Even in her final days, she was a witness to God's love and peace. While her absence leaves a deep void, her family finds comfort knowing that she is now whole, at peace, and in the presence of her Savior.
Glenda passed away on Sunday, June 15, 2025, in Tulsa. She was 85 years old.
She was preceded in death by her parents and by her beloved husband, James E. McElroy.
She is survived by her son, Kent McElroy and (Jeanene); daughter, Lori McElroy; grandchildren: A.J. McElroy and wife, Kelly, Taylor Chivaluksna and husband, P.J., and Brandi McElroy; and great-grandchildren: Grayson, Everly, Rylynn, and Azalea Mae.
The family will receive friends for visitation from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 17, at Bixby-South Tulsa Funeral Service. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 18, at South Tulsa Baptist Church.
