Glenda Matty Obituary
A visitation to honor and celebrate the life of Glenda Matty will be 1:00 pm Monday, April 2, 2018 at Whitt Funeral Service.
Glenda June Gibbs was born May 30, 1948 in Duncan, Oklahoma to Lora Lavelle (Clark) and Olen Dean “Skip” Gibbs. While growing up, she had many pets including: horses, squirrels, a skunk and even a talking crow, Sarge. In 1961, Skip opened a family business, Tri-City Produce, where Glenda spent many hours helping her parents. She attended Duncan schools and graduated from Duncan High School in 1967.
Upon graduation, Glenda attended business school and worked as a waitress. Enjoying a weekend off from work, Glenda was with friends when she met a young and handsome Army soldier, Michael John Matty. Michael was from Arizona and stationed at Ft. Sill. The two immediately started dating and were married in Wichita Falls, Texas on Sept. 27, 1969. Following their ceremony, they celebrated with a honeymoon to Arizona, California and Old Mexico. They returned to Duncan where they purchased their first house, excited about turning it into a home full of love and family. Glenda and Mike welcomed the birth of their daughter, Melissa, on February 29, 1972. Glenda loved being a mom and attending Melissa’s activities. She took great pride in taking care of her family.
Another exciting time for Glenda was the marriage of Melissa to Jason Ferbrache. Glenda was delighted to welcome Jason into her family and she enjoyed spending time together.
Glenda worked at the Woolworth lunch counter and Chennault Implement Company before beginning her employment with the Halliburton Finance Center where she worked as a financial clerk for 14 years. She was later employed by Duncan Regional Hospital.
In her free time, Glenda enjoyed watching college football and her New York Yankees. She especially enjoyed attending car shows with Mike - where they would proudly show off their ’57 Chevy. Glenda had a great love for Elvis Presley, and collected Elvis memorabilia; however, her love was quickly replaced with the birth of her grandson, Colby. This was one of the best days of her life! Glenda was Colby’s biggest cheerleader and supported him in all of his activities, often bragging of his accomplishments to her sisters!
Glenda passed away March 28, 2018 at the age of 69. Those she leaves behind are: husband, Mike Matty; daughter, Melissa Ferbrache and husband, Jason; grandson, Colby Ferbrache; brother, Rick Gibbs and wife, Cathy; sisters, Debbie Travis and husband, Tim, Sheryl Chapman and husband, Larry, and Carla Hall and husband, Greg; sister-in-law, Denise Frizzel; along with a host of other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; nephew, Jake Gibbs; sister-in-law, Alana Matty and brother-in-law, Barry Matty.
