Gerald Michael Andries' Obituary
Gerald Michael Andries, 85, of Bixby, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully in his home on February 1, 2025. He was born August 8, 1939 in Overton, Texas to John Gilbert Andries and Josephine Gertrude Andries.
Gerald graduated from Texas Tech University with a degree in Chemical Engineering. He moved to Tulsa Oklahoma to work for the Sunoco oil refinery where he helped to automate the refinery operations among other projects.
He retired after 29 years and pursued his joint passions of astronomy and flying ultralights. He was the facility manager for the Tulsa Astronomy Club observatory near Mounds, Oklahoma. He also flew ultralights with the Green Country Ultralight Flyers Organization and took many trips with them, some as far as north Texas.
Gerald is survived by Karen Andries (daughter), Patrick Andries (son), Kristen Andries (daughter), and Jewel Andries (granddaughter). He was preceded in death by his parents John Gilbert and Josephine Gertrude Andries, and siblings Gilbert (brother), Wibrey (sister), Richard (brother), Francis (brother), Mary Jo (sister), Paul (brother), Julian (brother), Joseph (brother), Bert (brother), Ronald (brother), and Donald (brother).
A celebration of life service will be held at the Tulsa Astronomy Club observatory located near Mounds, Oklahoma, on Saturday, April 12, 2025, beginning with a reception at 6:00 PM followed by a celebration of life and bring-a-dish dinner. After the service a representative of the Tulsa Astronomy Club will host a tour of the observatory and viewing of the night sky. Feel free to bring a dish to share and/or a telescope to join in with one of Gerald's favorite hobbies.
