George Coplen Obituary
George C. "G.C." Coplen was born January 31, 1940 in Kinta, Oklahoma to Ruby (Bryant) and C.B. Coplen, Sr. Reared and educated in Quinton, G.C. graduated high school with the Class of 1958. Upon graduation, he was drafted into the U.S. Army, and proudly served our country as a military policeman. Following his honorable discharge, G.C. made his home in Ft. Worth.One evening, while out square dancing with friends, G.C. met a lovely young lady by the name of Cheryl Didlake. The two hit it off, went out for a pizza, and the rest was history. Four years later, this couple married on January 31, 1986. G.C. was employed with the Texas Highway Department and later moved to Bixby as a salesman for Applied Industrial Technology. He retired, in 2006, after a 41-year career.While not working, G.C. could be found on a golf course. He was an avid golfer and devoted 13 years to the Christian Men's Fellowship, golfing three times a week, every month! He was also an enthusiastic OU Football fan, hardly missing any games. G.C. passed away March 26, 2019 at his home surrounded by his family. He was 79.Those he leaves to cherish his memory are: wife, Cheryl Coplen of the home; children, Stephanie Coplen of Manhattan, KS, Tracey Coplen and wife, Vicki of Crowley, TX, , and Mark Coplen and wife, Laurie of Bixby; siblings, and C.B. Coplen, Jr. and wife, Jan of Kinta, E.L. Coplen and wife, Marsha of Stigler, M.T. Coplen and wife, Rita of Kinta, J.P. Coplen and wife, JoBeth of Boyd, TX, Donnie Coplen and wife, Denna of Lubbock, TX,; grandchildren: Andrew, Joshua, and Amy Coplen; along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of other relatives and friends. G.C. was preceded in death by his parents, brother, T.J. and O.W. Coplen, and sister, Donna Wallace.A private family service will be held at a later date.
