George Orvil Fugate's Obituary
George Orvil Fugate, a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on March 7, 2025, leaving behind a lifetime of love, laughter, and cherished memories.
Born on November 8, 1943, in Pawhuska, Oklahoma, to John Fugate and Ruth (Surrett), George spent his early years in the Pawhuska and Ponca City areas, where he attended school. His love for learning led him to Coffeyville Junior College and later to Tulsa University, where he furthered his education.
In 1963, fate intervened at a drive-in restaurant, where George playfully pretended to be a waiter just to take an order from a beautiful young woman named Barbara Hastings. That lighthearted moment sparked a lifelong love, and they were married in 1964. Together, they built a wonderful life, first in Bartlesville, where they welcomed their daughter, Kimberly, and shortly after in Tulsa, where their son, John Michael, was born.
George built a successful career, managing the computer departments at Blue Cross Blue Shield and American Airlines. In 1973, he took a leap of faith and started his own business, Truck N Stuff, which became a testament to his determination and work ethic.
Outside of work, George had a passion for adventure. He loved camping and boating, owning a variety of boats over the years that brought his family countless joyful memories on the water. His love for cars-especially classic ones-was unmatched. As a proud member of the Early Ford Club, he enjoyed participating in car shows, sharing his enthusiasm with fellow collectors. In his younger years, he even owned racehorses and found great joy in attending the races.
But above all else, George was a family man. Nothing brought him more happiness than spending time with his children and grandchildren. His love for them was boundless, and he took immense pride in being their biggest supporter. Whether sharing stories, laughing around the dinner table, or making new memories, his presence was a source of warmth and love.
George's legacy of kindness, devotion, and humor will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him. His family takes comfort in knowing that his love will continue to surround them always.
Those he leaves to cherish his memory are his wife, Barbara; daughter, daughter, Kimberly Owen; son, Mike Fugate and wife, Jennifer; grandchildren, Samuel Owen, Kaitlyn Morakot, Shelby Pedigo, Claire Fugate, and Zoe Cothrin; along with six great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
George was preceded in death by his brother and sister.
