George Curtis Blair's Obituary
George Curtis Blair, 81, of Catoosa, Oklahoma, passed away Thursday, April 16, 2026, at his longtime residence. A man of the land, loyal to his family, and generous in spirit, George lived a full and purposeful life that touched everyone around him.
George was born May 17, 1944, in Row, Oklahoma, to Chandler and Gladys Opal (Brown) Blair - arriving into the world in a chicken barn, a humble beginning that perhaps foreshadowed the down-to-earth, resourceful man he would become. He grew up attending school in Kansas, Oklahoma, where he discovered a love of football, playing linebacker with pride. Though he enjoyed his school days, George's heart was always drawn to the outdoors. On particularly fine days, it was not uncommon for him to slip away to the creek or wander the woods - a habit that spoke to his lifelong love of nature and open spaces.
Even as a young boy, George's creativity and ingenuity were on full display. When he lost a tooth in the first grade, he fashioned a replacement from a simple piece of paper - a small but telling glimpse of the clever, can-do spirit that would define him throughout his life.
George met the love of his life, Jacqueline, at a local establishment. She did her best to avoid his attention, but George was a patient and determined man. He eventually crossed the room, asked her to dance, and the rest, as they say, was history. The couple married June 12, 1963, in Jay, Oklahoma, and went on to share nearly 63 beautiful years together.
From their union came four children: Gina, Curt, Randy, and Cory. George was remembered by those who knew him as an exceptionally fair father - a man whose stern look alone was enough to set things right, and who never needed anything more than that quiet authority to guide his children. He filled their childhood with time spent together in the outdoors, instilling in them the same love of nature and family that had always anchored him.
George built his career through hard work and determination, spending many years with Flint-Co Construction before channeling his entrepreneurial spirit into his own ventures. He founded The Mower Shop in Catoosa and also operated a rental equipment business offering Ditch Witch equipment, generators, and U-Haul services - becoming a familiar and trusted presence in the Catoosa community.
George was a devoted sports enthusiast, cheering passionately for the OU Sooners in both football and wrestling. His love of wrestling went beyond fandom - he founded the youth wrestling program in Catoosa and coached baseball and softball throughout the years. His sons and grandsons followed in his footsteps on the mat, a legacy he wore with tremendous pride. He was also known to spend hours alongside his sons working on their beloved 1969 and 1970 Mustangs, always happy to lend a hand and share in what they loved.
George is survived by his devoted wife, Jacqueline; his four children, Gina Barrett, Curt Blair, Randy Blair (Andrea), and Cory Blair; eight grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and his sisters, Diane and Valetta. He was preceded in death by his parents and four siblings, including Patty Blair and Scott Ransom.
A funeral ceremony honoring George's life will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, at Rivercrest Chapel.
