Frank William Gesinski's Obituary
Frank William Gesinski, 83, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 9, 2024, in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, after spending a cherished final day with his children.
Born on July 14, 1941, in Detroit, Frank was the beloved only child of Frank Thomas Gesinski and Estelle Julia Gesinski (nee Urdzela). Raised in a Catholic Polish family, Frank's early years were steeped in his rich Polish heritage. He spoke Polish exclusively until the age of five, a connection to his roots that he cherished throughout his life.
Frank attended Holy Cross High School in Marine City, Michigan, before earning a degree in Unified Science with a Math Specialty from Wayne State University. His career in the computer industry began with Burroughs, later leading him to positions with American Airlines and Sabre, where he made significant contributions to the airline and technology sectors.
Music was a constant thread throughout Frank's life. He began playing the accordion at age 10, a passion that would accompany him for decades. He sang in choirs for most of his life, including many years at St. Bernard's Parish. In the 1990s, Frank played in a polka band called the Polkatimers, delighting audiences at several Oktoberfests. He was also known for his performances at local Tulsa establishments, including Margaret's and Sigi's restaurants, where his enthusiastic renditions of the chicken dance became legendary. Frank's love for music extended to his role as editor of the Accordionist newsletter, combining his musical passion with his writing skills.
On August 7, 1976, Frank married the love of his life, Rosa Maria "Rosita" Marquez, in Mexico City. Their journey together took them from Quebec and Toronto, where their son Eric was born, to Houston, and then to The Colony, Dallas, where their daughter Marni was born in nearby Plano. In 1988, the family relocated to Tulsa, where they established their home.
Frank was known for his wonderful sense of humor and love for puns. For decades, he brightened the days of many with his "Joke of the Day" email. A huge fan of science fiction, Frank also found great joy in his later years watching Tom and Jerry cartoons with his granddaughter, Isabel. His devotion to classic comedy was evident in his love for Laurel and Hardy.
Frank is survived by his two children, Eric Gesinski and daughter-in-law Carly, and Marni Gesinski; and his granddaughter, Isabel Stilson. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Rosita, and his parents. Frank's life was filled with music, laughter, and love for his family and friends. His unique charm and warmth, from his accordion performances to his daily jokes, will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His legacy of joy, humor, and dedication to family and heritage will continue to inspire those whose lives he touched.
