Eleanor Roth Obituary
Eleanor Jean Roth, a resident of Tulsa, passed away Tuesday, January 25, 2022 at Saint Francis Hospital in Tulsa. She was 92 years old.
A funeral ceremony honoring Eleanor will be held at 2 PM Monday, February 7, 2022 in the Rivercrest Chapel in Bixby. Visitation will begin at 12:00 noon prior to the ceremony. Interment will follow in the Bixby Cemetery.
Eleanor was born at home on February 6, 1929, on a farm outside of Makoti, North Dakota. She was the daughter of Prince and Zenovia Trihub. The home where she was raised did not have plumbing, and she walked to a one room school house several miles from the farm. Eleanor was certified to teach after attending Minot State Teacher’s college.
Eleanor taught at a rural schoolhouse, and met Gerald Roth at a dance in Makoti. They soon married and moved to Drake. Eleanor was an excellent homemaker, and she mostly stayed home to raise their four children: Vickie, Deanna, Garret, and Pamela. She also worked with social services caring for abused children, as a store clerk, and a dental assistant. The family moved to a small farm outside of town, and raised much of their own organic food including meat, dairy products, fruits, and vegetables. Gerald had a blacksmith shop by the highway outside of town, which included a gas station. Eleanor was an excellent seamstress and sewed many of the clothes for her children. She was a fabulous cook, and the shelves in the large canning room in the basement were filled with preserved food from her gardens and fruit trees. She enjoyed embroidery, crocheting, knitting, and sewing. Her freezers were full of meat from the chickens, cattle, turkeys, geese, ducks, and pigs that were raised on the farm. Eleanor, her siblings and extended family often had large picnics, where many delicious Ukrainian dishes were served and enjoyed.
Eleanor and Jerry retired to Wilton, ND (outside of Bismarck) where her flowers and fruit trees were the envy of the town. She would later move to her oldest daughter Deanna’s ranch in Hulbert, OK, where a home was built for them. Eleanor’s love for flowers and gardening was replicated on the ranch, and she went through many pounds of seed and sugar feeding a variety of birds. Eleanor was always well-dressed, her hair was perfect, and she made sure she wore matching jewelry and shoes. She was a good listener, was well-liked and kind. She always took the time to care for her grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
Survivors include her children, Vickie Roth, Garret Roth, Pamela Speraw and her husband, Michael; 7 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and 2 great, great grandchildren.
Eleanor was preceded in death by her grandson, Justin Beuttler; her husband, Gerald Roth; daughter, Deanna Christ, and 9 siblings.
