Eleanor Gillock Obituary
Born February 23, 1920 in Stigler, Oklahoma, Eleanor was the daughter of Agnes Marie (Dalton) and William Ira Callaway and was welcomed by a big brother, Douglas and a big sister, Marie.Reared and educated in her birth community, Eleanor graduated from Stigler High School in 1938. She furthered her education by attending Connor's State College in Warner, Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, and later The University of Oklahoma in Oklahoma City graduating with a bachelor's degree in Medical Technology. Eleanor became employed by Hillcrest Hospital and moved to Tulsa. Once learning the male employees were being paid more than the women, she, along with her female co-workers, felt this was unfair and quit! Moving to Muskogee to be near family, Eleanor sought employment with the Veterans Hospital. This is where Eleanor met a young, handsome dentist, Robert Gillock, who was also employed by the Veterans Hospital. The two married on February 8, 1954 in a Muskogee wedding ceremony. Once Eleanor became a mom to her two boys, William and Thomas, she decided to stay home and care for her family. Eleanor felt privileged at the opportunity to be a homemaker, as she knew the importance of priorities, which were God and family. Eleanor was very active and a part of numerous organizations: The Oak Leaf Club, Shakespeare Reading Club, and Home Extension of Oklahoma State. She also worked for the election board for more than 30 years; earning the role of inspector. This loving mother and grandmother will certainly be missed, but her legacy will continue on in the heart of those who survive. They include: sons, William "Bill" Gillock and wife, Theresa, and Thomas "Tom" Gillock and wife, Gail; grandchildren, Kimberly Gillock, Robert Gillock and wife, Nicole, Andy Gillock and wife, Shea, Callie Heisten and husband, Jake, and Cole Gillock and wife, Kristen. Eleanor was preceded in death by her husband, Robert in 1978; parents, William and Agnes Callaway; brother, Douglas Callaway and sister, Marie Callaway.
