Faye passed away Thursday evening, December 15, 2022 at Saint Francis Hospital in Tulsa. She was 80 years old.
The youngest of six children, Faye was born May 11, 1942 in Checotah, Oklahoma; the daughter of Oran and Effie Mae (Borum) Browning. Faye was the daughter of a preacher and excelled in basketball while attending school. She continued her education by attending Southwestern Christian University in Bethany. Faye met Herman Hollingsworth in Oklahoma City and they were married on November 4, 1967. They raised two children, Todd and Tammy, primarily in Lawton, Oklahoma. She was a loving mother bringing up her children in the Pentecostal Church where she loved to sing, play piano and lead the choir. She was perhaps best known for her masterful breakfast spreads. Her biscuits and gravy recipe (among several others!) continues with her children and grandkids and will do so for generations to come. Faye pursued a career with the Department of Human Services retiring as a supervisor. Faye and Herman spent their retirement years living the country life on an acreage in Poteau.
Faye loved to laugh and sing. She strove to ensure that everyone in her life was happy. In addition to her love for music, she enjoyed crocheting and reading. It was always a treat for her family when she played her accordion. In her later years, Faye resided at the Sand Plum Retirement Community in Bixby, where she doted on her flowers, bird feeders and neighbors. Many friendships were made there.
May Faye’s memory be eternal among a host of family and friends who loved her. She is survived by her son, Todd Hollingsworth and his wife, Alisa Eykilis; and her daughter, Tammy Laurence and her husband, Tim; Her grandchildren, Nicholas Hollingsworth, Veronica Hollingsworth and husband, Sean Kennedy, Roy and Ethan Levy, Shauna DeWitt, as well as, Luke, David, and Bethany Laurence; and her brothers, Dewey and Donny Browning. Faye was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and her brothers, Woodrow, Curtis, Phillip.
