Wow. On a whim today, I'm shocked and saddened to learn of Derk's passing. We met when he was at The Common Good, and we talked about ways to manage technology cost-effectively.
My heart goes out to his family and friends for their loss.

Sorry this is so late, but I knew Derk from !0 Gym Owasso. Not well, but we spoke often when I saw him and knew he was minister of a church and moved to Oklahoma from Cali. I was speaking to another minister at a Collinsville church yesterday and asked him if he had ever met Derk, not realizing Derk has passed. I knew he was battling cancer though. I hope and pray his family is processing his passing with God's grace and peace. Rest in peace, Derk, and see you on the other side one day!
Connie—much much love to you. I will always remember Derk for his commitment to me and our “Men of Twelve” bible study. Backpacking in Yosemite, ski trips and all night Hearts games will be memories that will always stay with me. Chantelle and I are sending you love and care from your home in the West, good ‘ol Redwood City.
I am in such shock. Condolences to Connie and the kids. I love that guy. Him and I were friends since High school and had many adventuress together as well as great talks about life and God. I consider him a brother. He challenged me to come to Christ and I accepted. His passion was 100% and one of a kind. I was blessed to have him in my life. At ne point we were inseparable and I wouldn't have had it any other way. Love forever..
I met Derk through his work at Common Ground at the beginning of 2019 and we immediately had a connection. His love for people connected our hearts and work. I only learned today of his passing, and had no idea of his illness. But I am blessed because I knew him, I felt his heart in the work and love he had for people. I loved the way Derk talked-that calm, encouraging voice with eyes that would console anything you were going through. My condolences to his family and friends. Yes, there is a loss, but it is Heaven's gain. To everything, there is a season. May God Bless you all! Sabrina Ware-Goodwill Industries of Tulsa, Inc.
We met Derk and his family 10+ years ago when we began attending Discovery church where he pastored. He wasn’t just our Pastor, he was our friend and his family was like our ‘extended’ family.Derk committed most of his life to God and the work of God. He was energized by a power greater than this natural world understands. One of the things that caused us to have such a high respect for Derk was his great love for the orphaned children and those who were and are less fortunate. This selflessness and service for others leave a legacy that truly will live on in our memories of Derk. His work on this earth was of eternal value and because of that, he will have eternal reward. You truly are home, our Brother. We will miss him dearly and continue to pray for Connie, Clay, Montana, Tristan and Ian. Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted." (Matthew 5:4)Michael and Marsha
Derk was a visionary and an inspiration to many people. I enjoyed working with him at Project Hope Worldwide and also at The Common Good. I am even more thankful that he was my pastor for many years and the amazing and challenging messages he spoke over the congregation on Sundays. He has left a legacy for many generations to come. RIP Derk - ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. (Matthew 25:21) My deepest sympathies to Connie, Montana, Clay, Tristan, & Ian. May God give you peace that surpasses all understanding.
I just heard about Derk’s passing and I’m in shock. He was the reason my husband and I chose Discovery church 13 years ago and we’ve been there ever since. God spoke through him directly to me. It’s unbelievable he’s already gone from this earth. His work is already done. My condolences to his family. May you all have peace.
