Deloris Chowning Obituary
Deloris Marjorie Gabel-Embrey- Chowning, fell asleep in death on March 30, 2024, at Clarehouse in Tulsa, at the age of 89. Deloris, born on August 5, 1934, in Bartlesville, daughter of William and Ethel (Potts) Gabel. She was one of 11 children.
In the 1950s, Deloris met her first husband, Eugene Embrey, with whom she shared a passion for dancing. Together, they raised 5 children.
After Gene's passing in 1995, Deloris found love again and married Walter Chowning. Together they spent seven years in the full-time ministry, serving in Washington State and a short time in Mexico and South Dakota. In recent years Deloris wrote encouraging letters to those in the community to share a positive hope for the future.
She was known in Okmulgee for being part owner of the flea market on 6th St. She also worked for a short time at Highland Park Nursing Home.
She is survived by her children: Danny Embrey and wife, Kymberly, Tina Tilton and husband, Fred, Peggy Thomas, Jeff Chowning and wife, Linda; numerous grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, her children Donald, Judy, and David Embrey, Kathy Weinrick and her husband, Michael, and her granddaughter, Cati Thomas, All of Deloris' siblings preceded her in death.
A Memorial Service celebrating Deloris's life will be held at 3 PM on Saturday at the Okmulgee Kingdom Hall, located at 1229 E. 6th Street in Okmulgee. Her family eagerly awaits her return in the resurrection (John 5:28,29).
