Delbert Hammons' Obituary
Delbert was born on November 15, 1933, in Leslie, Arkansas to Joseph Homer Hammons and wife Lorene ("Dean"). Early in his life, he moved to California, where he would build the foundation of his adult years, career, and family. From a young age, Delbert carried a strong sense of responsibility-one that guided him throughout his life.
That sense of duty led him to answer his country's call when he served honorably in the United States Army during the Korean War, from June 16, 1952, until his military service concluded on May 25, 1954. His service reflected courage, discipline, and commitment-values he carried long after his uniform was put away.
In California, Delbert met the love of his life, Patricia Elnora Hammons, who was originally from Sapulpa, Oklahoma. Their meeting marked the beginning of a lifelong partnership rooted in love and faith. They were married on April 21, 1956, and together shared 62 years of marriage, building a home centered on devotion, resilience, and a strong Christian faith. Even after Patricia's passing on October 5, 2018, her presence remained deeply woven into Delbert's heart and life.
Delbert was a hardworking and dedicated provider. He spent 36 years working at Owens Corning Fiberglass in California, where his reliability, work ethic, and loyalty were well known. His career reflected the same steady commitment he brought to every role in his life.
Above all, Delbert was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather. He was deeply proud of his children: Delbert Eugene Hammons, who preceded him in death; Steven Lee Hammons; Karen Lynn Hammons; and David Wesley Hammons. Through them, his values, faith, and example continue to live on.
Delbert's life was marked not by loud words, but by consistent actions-by integrity, loyalty, and strength of character. Those who knew him understood that his love ran deep, his word mattered, and his presence was steady and reassuring.
Delbert was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Patricia Elnora Hammons (March 31, 1939 - October 5, 2018), and by his son, Delbert Eugene Hammons. He is survived by Steven Lee Hammons, Karen Lynn Hammons, and David Wesley Hammons, along with five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren - a living legacy of a life well lived.
