David Wayne Barlow's Obituary
David Wayne Barlow, 72, formerly of New York, passed away on Saturday, March 22, 2025, at his Bixby residence, surrounded by his loving family. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, David lived a life rich with love, service, and community.
Born on August 29, 1952, in Governeur, New York, David was the son of the late Leon Barlow and Leona Pennock (Gordinier). He was a proud graduate of Carthage Central High School, Class of 1971, where he was known for his passion for bowling.
David honorably served his country, first in the U.S. Air Force from 1971 to 1975, and later retiring from the U.S. Army National Guard. A faithful member of St. James Catholic Church in Carthage, David was known for his strong values and commitment to his faith and family.
Throughout his career, David was a long-time employee at the Climax Paper Mill. Outside of work, he was an avid reader and, most importantly, a loving grandfather who cherished his grandchildren, attending and supporting all of their activities and events.
David will be remembered for his love of dancing, his warm personality, and his incredible devotion to his family. He shared a special bond with his wife, Claudia, whom he had known since childhood and with whom he shared birthday celebrations.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Claudia J. Barlow; his daughter, LaDeana J. Norton; son-in-law, Paul B. Grove III; grandchildren Ashley Grove, Andrea Carr (and husband Jeffery), and Jacey Norton; great-grandsons Jayden Carr, Trenten Carr, and Nicolas Carr; another great-grandson expected in June; brothers Oliver "Butch" Barlow and Gary Barlow; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Leona Pennock and Leon Barlow; brothers Leon and Gilbert Barlow; and sister Donna Ennis.
A man deeply loved by all who knew him, David's legacy of kindness, service, and family devotion will continue to inspire those he leaves behind.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by the family. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to a local veterans' organization or children's charity in David's memory.
