A funeral ceremony honoring and remembering Cheryl Lynn Gorry will be held 2 PM Thursday, October 27, 2022 in the chapel of Bixby-South Tulsa Funeral Service & Crematory, 13307 S. Memorial Drive. The family will receive guests for lunch at the Rivercrest Event Center next door to the funeral home in Bixby. Cheryl passed away Sunday, October 23, 2022 at her Claremore residence. She was 72 years old.
Born September 29, 1950 in Canton, Ohio, Cheryl was the daughter of Courtney and Beverly Martin. She was raised mostly in the Midwest however, also lived in the Washington D.C. area for a brief time. Cheryl graduated from high school in Arlington, Virginia and attended college in the nation’s capital city.
Cheryl would meet Rick Gorry while working at United Airlines. The couple married May 10, 1975 in Berea, Ohio. From this union were born three children, Matthew, Tracy, and Daniel, who were raised in Geronimo, Texas.
While living in Geronimo, Cheryl drove a school bus and gained employment as a substitute teacher for the Navarro school system. Rick’s career with the airlines eventually moved their family to northeastern Oklahoma. Cheryl also worked as a school bus driver for the Oologah school system.
Cheryl loved hanging out with her grandkids, woodworking, and doing most anything with her hands, especially painting. She was mechanically inclined, known to repair many items around the house, and even pour concrete at times. Cheryl’s memory will be eternal in the hearts of all who loved her.
Surviving family include her loving husband, Rick; three children, Matthew Gorry and wife, Amy, Tracy Sellmeyer and husband, Traye, and Daniel Gorry and his wife, Christine; five grandchildren, Aiden, Hunter, Coleton, Madison, and Finley; her great grandsons, Barrett and Wesson; and her brothers, Charlie Martin and wife, Kathy, and Bradley Martin.
Cheryl was preceded in death by her parents.
