Charles Lee Phillips' Obituary
Charles Phillips Obituary
A memorial service to celebrate the life of Charles Lee "Charlie" Phillips will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 19, 2019 in the River Crest Chapel, Bixby. Charlie passed away on Thursday, March 14, 2019 at his home in Bixby. He was 79.
Born August 17, 1939 in Bixby, Oklahoma, Charles Lee Phillips was the son of Lawrence "Shorty" and Veryl (White) Phillips. With deeps roots in Bixby, it was earlier generations of the Phillips family that settled in Bixby, in the early 1900's, and hung their shingles working as blacksmiths. Charlie was raised in Bixby and rather than working on wagon wheels, he grew to have a fondness for cars and motorcycles.
Married March 4, 1960, in Broken Arrow, Charlie found a lifetime of love in Betty Pitchford. The two recently celebrated 59 wonderful years of marriage. Together, they welcomed a daughter, Karen, who grew up riding dirt bikes and street bikes with her dad.
A man who was great with his hands, Charlie could take anything apart and put it back together again! A car guy, he used those hands plenty on his '57 Chevy, '60 Chevy, '63 Corvette and his '57 Nomad Station Wagon that he loved so much - he cried the day they sold it! Charlie and Betty were members of the '55-'57 Chevy Club for years. Charlie was also a NASCAR fan and was especially fond of Dale Earnhardt and Dale Earnhardt, Jr.
A veteran of the U.S. Army, Charlie proudly served his country. As a career, he worked for Safeway for more than twenty years.
When at home, Charlie took great pride in having his yard groomed, manicured and edged!
A man of faith, Charlie's family takes great comfort in imagining that he arrived to the Gates of Heaven in one of his favorite cars and he's driving on the streets of gold.
Charlie is survived by: his wife, Betty of the home; daughter, Karen Heidland and husband, Jeff of Tulsa; brother, Ronald Phillips and wife, Kathleen of Bixby; brother, Gary Phillips and wife, Pam of Tulsa. He is also survived by other family including: his beloved dog, Mollie; his parrot, Big Boy and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Lawrence "Shorty" and Veryl Phillips.
