Charles McCall Obituary Memories of a life well lived on this earth…Heaven opened its arms at 6:30 a.m. Christmas Eve morning to receive a long-awaited prayer warrior, Charles Barnard McCall. He was born in Memphis, Tennessee on November 2, 1928 to John William and Lizette Kimbrough McCall. Charlie, as he was affectionately known, married Carolyn (Kay) Jean Rosselot on June 9, 1951. They enjoyed nearly 51 years of marriage until Kay’s death on February 7, 2002. From this union were born four girls; Linda, Kim, Betsy and Cathy. Charlie would later marry Ernestine (Ernie) Mann and welcomed her children, Scott and Pete.Charlie followed God’s call and went into medicine. He graduated from Vanderbilt University first in his class in undergraduate studies as well as in Medical School where he also received the Founder’s Medal. He completed his internship at University Hospital in Nashville, Tennessee and residency at the University of Alabama Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama while also serving his country in the U.S. Coast Guard and at the National Institute of Health in Washington, D.C. Charlie became Dean of three medical schools and retired as Vice President of Patient Affairs at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas.In addition to his numerous accomplishments, he had many loves including:(1) his family(2) his church(3) diverse ministries including Restoration Gateway in Uganda, Africa, being a member of the board of the ministries of Voice of China and Asia (VOCA) in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Options Pregnancy Center in Branson, Missouri and The Cottage in Bartlesville, Oklahoma(4) his animal friendsAfter moving to Hyde Park in Tulsa, he became known as the “dog whisperer”. As he walked his daily five miles, he always had a pocket full of dog biscuits for all of his furry friends. But the dog who truly stole his heart was his beloved Abigail.(5) teaching his friends and family how to enjoy and appreciate natureCharlie has climbed 35 of the 14,000-foot mountains in Colorado. He loved cross country skiing and taught so many others how to ski quietly through meadows in the snow and blend with the animals, mostly deer. He enjoyed sharing his love for the beauty of the alpine wildflowers of Colorado through his photography.(6) teaching any willing participant how to “PLAY”!Charlie’s medical ministry did not stop with “retirement”. He always answered medical questions for friends and neighbors explaining countless reports and tests. Four people attribute still being alive on this earth to his remarkable diagnostic skills. Charlie’s care and care and concern for his fellowman extended far beyond his medical expertise. He practiced and preached his faith in Jesus Christ daily. The love of Christ in Charlie’s heart enveloped everyone he met. He truly loved the Lord with his entire heart, soul, and mind.Surviving family include his wife Ernestine McCall of the home; his four daughters and their families; Linda and Glenn Blunt of Meeker, Oklahoma, Kim and Jack Gorman of Wolfforth, Texas, Betsy and Joe Crump of Knoxville, Tennessee and Cathy McCall and Cindy Hoke of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; his sons and their families; Andrew “Pete” and Jennifer Mann of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma and Scott Mann also of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, and 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren from Washington to Tennessee.Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, John William and Lizette Kimbrough McCall; his wife and mother of their four daughters, Carolyn “Kay” Jean Rosselot; his brothers, Duke and John; and his sisters Katrina Flowers and Lizette Bethea.In lieu of flowers, please send donations honoring the memory of Charlie to:Voice of China and Asia Restoration GatewayP.O.
