Carolyn Marie Dowler's Obituary
Carolyn Dowler Obituary
Carolyn Marie Ward was born on August 30, 1941 in Coweta Oklahoma to Otis and Marie Ward. Raised on the HA Sherman Ranch in Coweta, where her family lived. Carolyn grew up lending a helping hand on the ranch. Little did she know learning that hard work ethic, at an early age, was going to help her succeed throughout her adult life.Becoming a mom to her four children: Mike, Sandy, Randy and Robert, was Carolyn's greatest achievement. She loved motherhood even through the hard times-working as many as three jobs at a time just to keep her children clothed and fed. When Christmas time came around, she would pick pecans just to have the extra money to buy presents. Carolyn took great pride in her work ethic and was well respected for it.Don't be fooled to think that Carolyn was all work and no play. Just ask friends Frankie and Carl Clay about the pranks she pulled. Like carefully sticking fence post through the front bumper and grill of Frankie's truck after he tied her door handles shut.Carolyn not only teased friends but she enjoyed teasing her family more. Old Hag became a term of endearment in the eyes of Carolyn. When the witch broom came in on the semi, it became a cherished gift. To this day the family still talks about that Halloween where she sat very still on the front porch in a chair with a bowl of candy at her feet and a old blanket over her whole body - when that unsuspecting kid (or even one unsuspecting Allen Crockett) would reach for a hand of candy, she would scare the daylights out of them by moving.Carol loved her family and her friends like Rosie (best friends for 43 years). Some evenings were spent with "the gang" at the Apple Barrel Café, where if you didn't stop and share a cup of coffee and she found out. You were for sure to hear about it the next time she saw you.She enjoyed a good drive, whether it was going nowhere or to her favorite spot the Kiamichi Mountains. Carolyn loved the open road. She and her late husband, Bob, made many road trips together and thoroughly enjoyed one another's company until his passing in 2006. When she was home, Carolyn would most likely be found putting jig-saw puzzles together or sitting outside on the front porch. If on the porch, she wouldn't be alone as her dogs (who really belonged to the neighbors) would be up on her lap or laying across her feet-not without having a milk bone, or two, first! Carolyn loved her dogs and loved spoiling them! So much so, that when she had a visitor, they would have to compete for her attention. That, unless you were a grandchild or great grandchild!Being a grandma and spending time with the grandchildren and great grandchildren was life at its sweetest. In 2015, Carolyn received the devastating news that she had breast cancer. Though she was terrified of the news, she was determined to overcome and beat this cancer. Carolyn underwent surgery, followed by months of radiation before learning that indeed she had won her fight against cancer. She was so proud when she was able to ring that bell. Her family and friends celebrated with a surprise party that is still talked about today.Carolyn passed away December 9, 2018. Though she will be missed terribly, she told her family in the days preceding, she was ready. In her final days, she was worried about us and assured us that everything was going to be okay. Those she leaves to cherish her memory are: son, Mike Brown and wife, Sue; daughter, Sandy Lowe; son Randy Brown and wife, Teresa; and son Robert Brown and wife Carrie, all of Bixby. She also leaves behind grandchildren, Amanda Earsom and husband, Len; Dustin Brown and wife, Cassidy: Derek Lowe, Melissa Lowe; Brandon Brown and wife, Fawna; Cody Brown; Brody Brown, Zachery Hemphill; Nathan Brown; and great grandchildren Gentry and Gaige Earsom, Baron and Ayden Brown, Connor Brown, Toni Eudy Brown and Waylon Brown.Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Wanda Ward (who passed away only three days following Carolyn's mother's death), and husband, Robert "Bob" Dowler. An informal gathering to celebrate and remember the life of Carolyn Dowler will be 10:00 am Thursday, December 13, 2018 at River Crest Chapel.
