Carol Smith's Obituary
Carol was the last of 4 children and was born on May 24, 1946, to Jacob and Mary Smith. She was raised in a conservative Brethren home on a dairy farm in Hershey, Pennsylvania. Carol was active in 4-H with dairy and pig projects and loved helping on the farm as a child.
When Carol was 12 years old, she dedicated her life to the Lord Jesus Christ and was baptized shortly afterward. There was a continuous longing in her to serve God and help people. Right after high school, Carol spent a year as a volunteer in her church. During this time God placed in her heart a desire to pursue nursing for the Lord so she went to nursing school and later became an RN.
Carol moved to Tulsa in the early 1980's and worked with babies at St. Francis Hospital. In her off hours, she attended Rhema Bible Training Center for their 2-year program with an emphasis in mission.
In 1985 she went to the Philippines, came back to the states, then returned to the Philippines full time in 1988 and remained there for 27 years. Carol started a medical outreach, planted 6 churches, started a Bible School and led thousands to Christ. The Filipinos were her brothers, sisters and children. They had won her heart and she was loved by all!
When Carol retired in 2015, she returned to Tulsa and reconnected with many friends. She became a personal in-home caregiver to several individuals, volunteered at Loaves and Fishes, a local food outreach to the needy, and continued to make yearly trips back to the Philippines to encourage believers there.
Although Carol never married, or had children her own on Earth, she led countless to the Lord and has many spiritual children who will be with her in eternity. She is survived by her siblings, Robert B. Smith, Faye A. Witters, Harold D. Smith, and many nieces and nephews.
Carol went home to be with the Lord on March 19, 2024, surrounded by friends and caring nurses. Her heart was to get back to the Philippines to the very end.
