Lak-e-ma I will miss you.
Lak-e, the younger sister of our dear mother, Lilia, was the only godmother I ever knew.
Lak-e was a guiding light, a role model, and an inspiration. Her resilience and perseverance were unmatched, and her generous heart knew no bounds. She was a woman of intellect, a gifted musician with a beautiful soprano voice, and a remarkable pianist—even as she battled the pain of rheumatoid arthritis, her music never faltered.
She had a deep love for life’s simple joys. She was a lover of plants and flowers. Even in her retirement years in Tacloban, she found joy in tilling the soil, growing vegetables, and especially cultivating her beloved lettuce. Her garden was a testament to her spirit—vibrant, nurturing, and full of life. It was amazing to witness her energy and passion. There was never a dull moment for her.
Lak-e was also a master in the kitchen. Her baking was legendary. She baked the most delicious chocolate moist cake I ever tasted. I will never forget the three-layered wedding cake she lovingly baked for our wedding reception. It wasn’t just a cake; it was a gift from the heart, a symbol of her love and care.
She gave so much of herself to others, always with a smile, always with grace. Her presence brought warmth, laughter, and comfort. She was an epitome of a great lady in every sense—elegant, wise, and full of love.
Thank you, Lak-e, for everything. Thank you for your love, your wisdom, your music, your laughter, and your unwavering support as a good aunt. You have left a mark on our lives that time will never erase. I love you deeply and will surely miss you.
May you now rest in peace, and be in paradise, embraced by the love of our Almighty God.
Love,
Veronica "Vicky" Tieng Kierulf
