Britt William Wasson's Obituary
Britt William Wasson
January 9, 1951 – May 23, 2025
Britt William Wasson was born on January 9, 1951, in St. Petersburg, Florida. He was the son of Eugene and Shirley (Deturk) Wasson. Britt spent his early childhood in California before the family eventually made Tulsa, Oklahoma, their home just before Britt’s teenage years. He attended Edison High School, where he played both baseball and football, and was also a talented keyboardist in a local rock band.
Britt married Debbie, and together they welcomed two children: Britt II and Melody. Though their marriage later ended, both remained devoted parents and continued to place their children’s well-being above all else. After each found love again, the two families embraced one another, joining together to celebrate holidays and milestones as one extended family.
In 1980, Britt moved from Tulsa to Ardmore to start his own business, American Building Centers. It was there he met Patti Miller. After a brief courtship, they married and began a life together, eventually welcoming two additional children, Heidi and Daniel.
Britt was a true entrepreneur. Beyond owning his lumber yard, he also opened a baseball card shop in Colorado Springs. He and Patti helped establish Pride Soccer in Colorado Springs and later launched Wasson Companies, a fence and landscaping business. Britt was never one to sit still—he loved coaching kids (often even those who weren’t his own), fishing, and continuing to play the piano by ear. In his younger years, he even worked as an usher at Denver Broncos games, earning $5 and free game entry—an experience that cemented him as a lifelong, die-hard Broncos fan.
More than anything, Britt loved watching his grandchildren grow up and shine in their various activities. His personality was a blend of strength, humor, tenderness, and fierce loyalty. He was known for welcoming others with open arms and often had extras under his roof or under his wing. He was especially devoted to his late sister’s children—Jaden, Felisha, Roxy, and Dalton—and his love only grew as their families expanded.
In Britt’s home, there were two simple rules:
Rule #1 – No lying.
Rule #2 – No drugs.
He lived by mantras that left an impression on all who knew him: “Do whatever you want—as long as you’re man enough to fess up,” and, “If it’s not worth doing right, it’s not worth doing at all.”
A fighter through and through, Britt battled numerous health issues and surgeries over the past several years, earning the nickname “Wolverine” for his incredible strength, healing abilities, and resilience. Though he has now been called home, Britt’s presence will never be forgotten. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and grit—and big shoes to fill.
Britt was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Shirley, and his sister, Sherry Mason.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Patti; his children: Britt Wasson II and wife Susan, Melody Buffington and husband Randy, Heidi Shadid, and Daniel Wasson and wife Meredith; his grandchildren: Britt III, Landon, Skylar, Brogan, Jalen, Kyra, Tristan, Ryleigh, Emily, and Miles; his brother, Gary; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and cherished friends.
Following a gravesite service, the family will host a reception on June 30, 2025 at 11:30 a.m. at the Buddy LaFortune Community Center, 5202 S. Hudson Av., Tulsa, OK 74135.
