Betty Smith was more than just my mother—she was my hero, my confidant, and the glue that held our family together. She may have been small in stature, but her spirit was larger than life, and her love knew no bounds. She was the GREATEST mother, and words cannot capture just how much she meant to me and everyone whose lives she touched.
Mom gave everything she had to ensure her family was cared for, often putting our needs above her own without hesitation. If I needed someone to talk to, she was always there, listening with understanding and compassion. If I needed a shoulder to cry on, she was there, offering comfort and strength. And if I needed a reality check, she was really there, delivering her honest wisdom with a firm yet loving hand.
No matter what was happening in her life, Mom always made time for me. Her selflessness was unmatched, and I’ll forever be in awe of the way she could put aside her own struggles to be a constant source of support for her family. I miss everything about her—her voice, her hugs, her laugh, and the way she could make everything feel okay, no matter how bad things seemed. I have recordings of her voice, pictures, and videos that bring back memories, but nothing can replace her touch or the comforting guidance only she could give.
Mom had a way of bringing our family together, even when we didn’t see eye to eye. She was our peacemaker, our problem-solver, and the heart of our home. When Mom told you to do something, you didn’t argue—you just did it, because you knew it came from a place of love and wisdom. She commanded respect, not through fear but through the undeniable strength of her character.
I am so grateful for the time I had with her, but the void she has left is immeasurable. Still, I carry her lessons and love with me every day. Her legacy lives on in the way she shaped our family and in the memories that we will treasure forever.
Rest in peace, Mom. You will always be loved, always be missed, and always be remembered. Thank you for everything—for your sacrifices, your guidance, and your endless love. You were the greatest mother anyone could ever ask for, and I will carry your spirit with me every day of my life.
