Betty Louise (Turpen) Box, wife of Jack Francis Box for 70 years, passed away on June 14, 2018. Born on February 11th, 1930, in Vega, Texas, daughter of Wilburn M. and Violet Luella (Little) Turpen. Betty moved to Ponca City, Oklahoma along with her mother Violet Turpen in 1944. Jack and Betty met in High School in Ponca City where the two lifted both families to new levels by being the first in their family to graduate from high school. Jack and Betty married on Christmas Eve in 1947 and had two children, Stephen (Steve) Wayne and Cynthia (Cindy) Dianne Box who also graduated from PoHi. Cindy was a graduate of Northwestern State University in Alva, Oklahoma and worked for the Department of Human Service in Oklahoma City. Cindy passed in a tragic motorcycle accident with her boyfriend on Lake Hefner at the age of 25, on May 22, 1975. Steve earned a Master Degree in Environmental Science from Oklahoma State University. Jack and Betty lived in Ponca City and were members of First Baptist Church until moving to Tulsa in 1987. After raising her children as a stay-at-home mother, Betty went to work for Oklahoma Natural Gas Company in Ponca City from 1962-86 when she retired as Executive Secretary. Professionally she was the president of Credit Women in 1976, Desk and Derrick in 1983, and an ONGOER retiree organization. She loved to travel and was blessed to have the opportunity to cruise on the Norway, Sovereign of the Seas, S.S. Independence, and visit Germany on a trip with a group of her friends. Most importantly, Betty was a nurturer and loved to feed her family from her kitchen. That nurturing spirit went beyond her own family as she and Jack cared greatly about children and were ambassadors for their care through their charitable contributions to the Oklahoma Baptist Home for Children in memory of their daughter, Cindy. Betty was a true partner in the ministries of Oklahoma Baptist Homes for Children. She was a charter member of Women of Compassion, a statewide organization dedicated to providing hope and homes for children. She loved attending the children's fashion show each year where the children modeled the clothes that they had been given. She was the past president of Sungate Garden Club and was also a dedicated volunteer at Saint Francis Hospital for many years. Betty cared deeply about people and demonstrated this in her service to others. Although Betty spent most of her life in Oklahoma, she was always a native Texan at heart and felt strongly that her Texas roots made her life experience unforgettable!Jack departed to join Cindy on May 7, 2018 and Betty followed just over a month later on June 14, 2018.Betty is survived by her son Stephen Box, his two sons and their families. Stephen is the founder of Environmental Stewardship, a non-profit he created to defend water rights in the Austin, Texas area. Steve gave Betty two grandsons. The first, Jason, is married to Stacy (Lee) Box and they live in Mounds, Oklahoma where Jason works as a foreman of a successful overhead crane company and Stacy is an active fitness trainer. Jason gave Betty two Great Grandchildren, Brittany Nicole Box, who recently graduated with a Nursing Degree from the University of Tulsa and Chandler Michael Box, a welder and metal craftsman working in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Betty's second grandson Kevin Box, is married to Jennifer (Cady) Box. They also live and work in Santa Fe, New Mexico as successful artists, creating and exhibiting sculpture, under the Box name, all over the world. Betty had five siblings: Nancy Emma (Brookshire) - children Tommy Ray, Phillip Dean, Roy Robert, Kenneth Daryl and his wife Jennifer living in Conroe Texas, and Glenda Louise; Wilburn Earl (Bill) - children Daniel Kent and Karen Sue (both living); Izetta Alice; Raymond Dale (Pete) - child Violet Ann (living); and Billy Eugene Turpen. Betty will be buried beside her husband Jack and daughter Cynthia in Longview Cemetery near Ponca City, Oklahoma and Kaw Lake, where many good times were spent together with family and friends.Services to honor and remember the life of Betty are scheduled for 10:00 am Wednesday, June 20, 2018 at South Tulsa Baptist Church Chapel with burial to follow at the Longview Cemetery in Ponca City, OK.Service South Tulsa Baptist Church 10310 S.
