A graveside ceremony honoring Bert Lee Boles will be held 10 AM Tuesday, September 6, 2022 at the Memorial Park Cemetery in Tulsa. The family will receive visitors from 6-8 PM Monday at Bixby-South Tulsa Funeral Service. Bert passed away Wednesday, August 31, 2022 at Saint Francis Hospital in Tulsa. He was 85 years old.
Born March 13, 1937 in Tulsa, Bert was the son of Charley Lee and Alpha Candice (Pasley) Boles. He grew up on the family’s farm near 51st Street and South Wheeling Avenue. What was farmland is now considered to be the center of the Tulsa Metro. The Boles family raised cattle, chickens, and turkeys there in the 1940’s. Bert’s father was an extremely hard worker which was passed down to ensure that all projects were completed properly and efficiently. This was shown when working on the Bixby farm and passed down to Bert’s children and workers throughout the years. Many people regard Bert as a great teacher of farming techniques and life skills.
Bert graduated from Tulsa Central High School with the Class of 1955. Following high school, he attended NEO College, and then Oklahoma State University, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in Agriculture. After graduation, Bert grew tomatoes for the seed that was sold to Oklahoma State University, and later shipped worldwide to increase tomato production.
Bert pursued a long career in farming, both as a vegetable farmer, and eventually entering the sod business, supplying a multitude of residential and commercial projects. Bert was extremely well read and knowledgeable about many subjects in life, but especially wise about farming chemicals and fertilizers. Bert was passionate about providing the very best products to his customers. Locally, he was known to maintain one of the nicest shops in the area for his equipment.
Though most would consider Bert a workaholic on the farm, he did enjoy watching the news and various types of educational programs. Bert married his beloved wife Sharon December 26, 1992. His memory will be cherished by a host of family and friends who loved him dearly.
Surviving family include his wife, Sharon Boles; his children, Charley Lee (Chuck) Boles II and wife, Karen, LeAnne Simas and husband, Jim, Jill Hamilton and husband, Robert, and stepson, Henry LeBourgeois; his grandchildren, Chad Boles and wife, Jamie, Chris Boles and wife, Lindsey, Chase Boles and wife, Marissa, Ryan Shatswell and wife, Crystal, Jason Simas and wife, Rani, Jenna Frey and husband, Erik, Paislee Pulley and husband, Connor, Ciara Christopoulos and husband, Zack; 20 great-grandchildren and one on the way.
