Barbara Jean Fugate's Obituary
Barbara Jean Fugate, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away on December 30, 2025, at Saint Francis Hospital in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She was 81 years old.
Barbara was born on September 29, 1944, in Deming, New Mexico, to Donald Eugene and Alberta Maxine (Enlow) Hastings. She grew up in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, alongside her sisters, Joyce and Benna Kay, and graduated from College High School in Bartlesville with the Class of 1962.
Following high school, Barbara began working as a secretary at the Research Center for Phillips Petroleum. Around that same time, she proudly purchased her Corvair automobile-a small but memorable symbol of her independence and determination.
In 1963, fate intervened in the most charming way at a local drive-in restaurant. A young man named George pretended to be a waiter, simply to take an order from a beautiful young woman named Barbara Hastings. That playful moment sparked a lifelong love story, and the two were married in 1964.
Together, Barbara and George built a wonderful life rooted in love, family, and hard work. They first made their home in Bartlesville, where they welcomed their daughter, Kimberly. Shortly thereafter, they moved to Tulsa, where their son, Michael, was born. Barbara was the most supportive person on the planet-especially to her grandchildren-always offering encouragement, love, and steady presence.
Barbara shared many passions with George. Together, they owned race horses and traveled to many different states to watch their horses compete. She cherished camping trips and family vacations to Lake Texoma, Lake Tenkiller, and Lake Fort Gibson, and she especially loved time spent at their homes on Grand Lake, fishing and making memories with her grandchildren.
Barbara also worked side by side with George in their family business, Truck N Stuff, where they sold truck parts and accessories. Their partnership in life extended naturally into business, reflecting their shared dedication and teamwork.
Barbara was preceded in death by her beloved husband, George Fugate March 7, 2025, and her parents, Donald Eugene and Alberta Maxine Hastings.
She is survived by her daughter, Kimberly Owen; her son, Mike Fugate and wife Jennifer; her grandchildren, Samuel Owen, Kaitlyn Morakot, Shelby Pedigo, Claire Fugate, and Zoe Cothran; six great-grandchildren; her sister, Joyce Gold and husband Don; her sister, Benna Kay Winn; her nieces and nephews who dearly loved her; and a host of other relatives and friends.
