Author Leo Fout's Obituary
Author Leo Fout passed away peacefully on Monday, March 10, 2025, at Saint Francis Hospital in Tulsa. He was 82 years old.
Born February 8, 1943, in Shady Point, Oklahoma, Leo was one of ten children born to Cleo and Eula (Mayfield) Fout. Despite growing up in humble circumstances in southeastern Oklahoma, Leo developed a strong work ethic and zest for life that would define his character throughout his years.
Leo graduated from Panama High School, where he excelled as a track and field athlete and basketball player. It was there he met his high school sweetheart, Janice Ann Miller. The couple married on May 17, 1962, and established their home in Centralia, Oklahoma. Their union blessed them with three beloved children.
A skilled welder by trade, Leo worked primarily in the gas and oil industry, specializing in heat exchangers and cooling products. His industrious nature saw him take on various jobs throughout his life, from working at gas stations to laboring in cotton fields. He approached every task with determination and commitment.
Leo's passions extended beyond his work. He found joy in the outdoors, particularly fishing for catfish and crappie, and hunting quail. He was an accomplished auctioneer who bought and sold furniture in Wagoner. Leo also enjoyed playing card games and singing in church in Panama. Those who knew him best would describe him as goofy and fun-loving, with a particular fondness for eggs prepared over easy.
Above all, Leo was a devoted father who cherished time spent with his family.
Leo is survived by his sons, Bryan (Dana) Fout and Brett Fout; siblings Naomi Kirk, Dolphis Fout, Joyce Cando, Gearl Fout, Johnny Fout, Lora May Neff, and Larry Fout; grandchildren Bethani Paige, Amber Davis, Meagan Starr, and Brooklyn Starr; and thirteen great-grandchildren: Samantha, Zachary, and Madelyn Whitham; Alexander Paige; Dallas and Shayleigh Maltos; Ainsley Davis; Panterra Starks; Leo Shields; Savanna, Dean, Dayton, and Jason Starr.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Janice Ann; daughter Felicia (Chris) Starr-McDaniel; brother David Fout; and sister Sharon Kay Inman.
A celebration of Leo's life will be held at 11 AM on Friday, March 21, in the Great Room of the Rivercrest Chapel and Event Center. A potluck luncheon will be available for all in attendance.
