Allan Eugene Sprung was born on May 2, 1938, in Hayfield, Minnesota, to Ernest and Vivian (Meyer) Sprung. On Sunday, February 11, 2024, Allan peacefully departed this life at the age of 85.Allan, a proud graduate of Austin High School, carved out a meaningful life in Rochester, where he dedicated the majority of his years.A skilled carpenter and craftsman, Allan left an indelible mark at the Mayo Clinic, where he seamlessly blended his talents with years of devoted service. His craftsmanship extended beyond his professional life, weaving it into his hobbies including furniture, clock making, and a pedestal he built for the Professional Skaters Association.Allan was a generous man contributing to his church and many charities, which was also evident in the beautiful cedar chests he crafted for his grandchildren and other items he made for family and friends. An avid sports enthusiast, Allan's cheers for the Minnesota Twins, Vikings, and Gophers echoed his passion for the games. His leisure time was spent reading, traveling, and pursuing his love for hunting and fishing, a shared joy with his brother, Edsel, and good friend Orris Ohm. Allan's hunting skill was rewarded with the distinction of shooting the 4th largest turkey in Minnesota which is now displayed at the Oxbow Park Nature Center in Byron.Defined by loyalty, passion, and an unwavering commitment to excellence, Allan approached work, life, and family in this manner. He instilled the importance of education and hard work in his children, fostering a legacy of determination. Allan's strong faith in God was the cornerstone of his life, evident in his consistent church attendance and the Christian values with which he raised his children and lived his daily life.A devoted member of Rochester Covenant Church, where services are being planned for Saturday, March 2nd at 11:00 AM and also a viewing the night before from 6-8 PM. Allan will find his final resting place in Waltham Township Cemetery. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Vivian (Meyer) Sprung, his brother, Edsel, and sister, Erna. Allan is survived by his loving children: son, Bruce Sprung and wife Mary of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, and daughter, Wendy Robinson and husband, Don of San Antonio, Texas. He leaves behind three grandchildren: Philip Sprung, William Sprung and wife, Whitney, and Jessica Porter and husband, Robert, along with two great-grandchildren: Henrietta and Robert Calvin "R.C." Porter.In celebrating Allan's life, may his memory live on in the love, values, and craftmanship he shared with all who knew him.
