Ricky Robbins Obituary Ricky Joe Robbins, 63, short-haul truck driver, passed away on Thursday, February 6, 2020 in Tulsa. He was 63. Born November 9, 1956, in Ft. Worth, TX, Ricky Joe Robbins was the son of Kenneth and Barbara (Rainey) Robbins. Ricky or “J.R.”, as he was known to many, received his first toolbox at four years of age. This gift would mark the beginning of J.R. constantly working on or fixing something, although there was a short stint when his toolbox was taken away from him after he managed to take apart the gas meter. Throughout his childhood, it was not uncommon for neighborhood kids to bring their bicycles or dirt bikes to J.R. the repairman. He would make the proper adjustments and then return these objects back to their owners in good as new condition! Repairing these small engines, early on, was probably also the beginning of J.R.’s love of motorcycles. He would continue to have a passion for riding and fixing throughout his lifetime. J.R. would find true love when he met Darlyne Lawson - although he had to chase her for a while before she said yes. The couple would make their home in Tulsa where J.R. enjoyed tinkering on various things. Having a desire to stay busy meant that J.R. would dabble in one hobby until getting bored. He would then quickly move on to something else. Some of his favorite pastimes, through the years, included: remote control car racing, gun collecting, spending time out on the lake and camping, but, more than anything, he enjoyed spending time with his wife and his family. J.R. was employed by Groendyke Transport where he was a short-haul truck driver. Described as: hard-working, funny, loving, strong, and, at times, stubborn, this son, husband, father, and grandfather will certainly be missed by his family and friends including the ‘old guys at the coffee shop’. He is survived by: his loving wife, Darlyne Robbins; daughters: Nicole Koonce (Jack), Autumn Lawson (Jared); granddaughter, Kennedie; mother, Barbara Willett; brothers: Randy, Rocky, Rusty, Robert and Michael and sister, Melissa.
