Jim Davenport Obituary DAVENPORT, James McAfee "Jim", 88, died June 11,2019 after a life well lived. Jim, a retired retail executive, was born in Tulsa July 24, 1930. He graduated from Tulsa Central High School in 1948 and from the University of Tulsa undergraduate in 1952 and graduate business school in 1956. After serving with the Army in Korea, Jim had a forty-year career in retailing having been National Retail Sales Manager for Sears, Vice President of Merchandising for Gibson Distributors, Whites Home & Auto, Howard Brothers, Globe Superior and the Begley Companies. He was President of J&J Distributors. He and his wife Joan owned the Midas franchise in Lewisville, TX and he was president of the Midas DFW Dealers Association. Jim retired in 1993 and did extensive volunteer work and public speaking for the Service Corps of Retired Executives in Dallas and was a long-time volunteer at the Lewisville, TX Chamber of Commerce. He traveled the US and the world and had visited every state and every major city in the US plus 66 foreign countries. He was an avid reader, reading over a hundred books a year. A tournament racquetball player, he had winning trophies from five different states. Jim was a fan of the University of Tulsa, the Dallas Cowboys, Texas Rangers, and the Dallas Mavericks. They will miss his cheers. Jim was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution., Friends of the Library and lifetime member of Tulsa Masonic Lodge #71 and longtime member of the TU Alumni Association and Golden Hurricane Club. He and his wife Joan Bagby Davenport were founding members of John Knox Presbyterian Church and the second member to be married in the congregation. After Joan, his wife of 49 years, death in 2001 he was remarried to their long-time friend Peggy McNair Foutch and moved back to the Tulsa area from Texas.He was preceded in death by: his parents Mac and Ella Davenport; his son, James Daniel Davenport and younger brothers: Jack and Jerry Davenport.Jim is survived by his wife Peggy of Bixby; his daughters: Debra Lanfer (Tom), Richmond, TX, daughter, DiAnn Lewis (Jim), Plano, TX , daughter-in-law, Rhonda Davenport, Hurst, TX; grandchildren: Dan Davenport (Laura), Clint Lewis (Misty), Wade Lewis (Bethany), Rachel Blaylock (Scott), Laura Boldt (Clayton); nine great-grandchildren; and sisters-in-law: Sara Davenport and Trisha Bagby of Tulsa. When Jim married Peggy, he was blessed with an extended family: son, Marty Foutch (Linda), daughter, Dr. Pam Ruth (John) and their families, Clark McNair (Cheryl), plus many nieces, nephews, and cousins.For those desiring, the family requests, with gratitude, in lieu of flowers donations be directed to the Tulsa Boy's Home, or your favorite charity. Visitation will be in RiverCrest, Bixby from 5 to 7pm, Sunday, June 16th. A memorial service will be Monday, June 17th at 10:00 am, also at RiverCrest.
