Douglas Brush Obituary Born January 14, 1947, in St. Paul, Minnesota, Douglas Joe Brush was the first child of Joseph and Henrietta Katherine (Zenk) Brush. Doug, as he was affectionately known, would later welcome a baby sister, Roxanne. The Brush family made many moves through the years. This, as Mr. Brush’s management career demanded. Something special that these moves brought about was a close-knit family group that stayed connected through the years. Attending and graduating school from Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois, Doug earned a degree in electrical engineering and had a career in the Telecommunications industry. His career would move his family including of his wife, Peg and children: Sarah and Seth from Chicago, Illinois to Phoenix, Arizona and lastly Tulsa, Oklahoma. Doug met Peg when they both worked at GTE in Elmhurst, Illinois. They married, after dating 2 years, in June of 1974 and honeymooned in Yellowstone. They returned there for their 40th anniversary and found the same tiny little cabin they had stayed in. When he wasn’t at work, Doug had numerous hobbies that kept him busy through the years. He was an avid sports fan and always cheered on his Green Bay Packers. He also enjoyed running and participated in numerous runs including the Chicago Marathon. Later, he took up cycling and enjoyed riding in groups such as the Tulsa Wheelmen Bicycle Club. It was through that club that Doug won numerous awards, and, in fact, they were ready to see him ‘age out’ so that others could begin receiving the awards and trophies that were a shoe in for Doug! A car enthusiast to put it mildly, Doug had numerous cars through the years. He was especially fond of and collected Mustangs, Roadsters, and Austin-Healey’s to name a few. It wasn’t uncommon for Peg to ride in any of these cars, with Doug, and one might even see one of their Golden Retrievers riding along too! When there was no open road ahead, Doug also enjoyed being out on the water and, in turn, took up sailing and boating. Because of this, he acquired a sailboat and speed boat and logged many hours on the water. To Doug, one of the best ways to start and end a day was camping. In fact, some of the family’s best memories were made camping out on “The Rim” in Arizona. Doug’s faith was certainly not overshadowed by any of the activities or hobbies that he participated in. He loved the Lord and was a deacon at South Tulsa Baptist Church where he was known as “Doug with a camera”. This, because Doug’s photography was regularly used in the church publication, “The Channel”. Another tribute to Doug’s faith, there was a time that he taught Sunday School. To practice his lessons, he would make audio recordings, each week, and would send those to his parents. It was because of this dedicated practice along with the Word of the Lord that Doug was able to lead both of his parents and his sister to the Lord. A fun, loving, and dedicated man, Doug was known and loved by many. His battle has now been won, but he will certainly be missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Peg; daughter, Sarah Hetherington and her husband, Adam; son, Seth Brush; along with his sister, Roxanne Zaharias and her husband, Don.
