Doris Louise Higgs

Doris Louise Higgs, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, peacefully passed away on May 8th, 2024, in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, at the age of 90. Born on July 19, 1933, in Duncan, Oklahoma, Doris was the cherished daughter of Frank and Beulah Nelson. Growing up in Oklahoma alongside her four siblings, Doris' vibrant spirit and athleticism shone through as she played point guard for the Sand Springs Sandites basketball team and graduated from Sand Springs High School. It was during a visit to her sister in Bakersville, California, that Doris encountered her future husband, Charles Randall Higgs. Together, they returned to Knoxville, Arkansas, where they lovingly raised six children. Doris dedicated herself not only to her family but also to her work, serving with loyalty and dedication at various companies including Hansfords, Singer Corporation, and Tyson Foods in Clarksville, Arkansas. She was the epitome of a devoted mother, known for her sweetness, kindness, and quiet strength. Despite her calm demeanor, Doris had a delightful sense of humor, never hesitating to crack a joke, even in her senior years. An exceptional cook, Doris delighted her family with delicious Southern comfort food, hosting Sunday roasts and delighting in canning and baking. She found joy in watching mystery shows, scary movies, and Westerns, particularly those starring John Wayne and Clint Eastwood. Doris was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Charles Randall Higgs, her parents, Frank and Beulah Nelson, and her siblings, Vernon Nelson, Kenneth Nelson, Jeannine Garrigus, and Terry Nelson. She is survived by her sons, Randy Higgs (Karen) and Tim Higgs; daughters, Lori Argue (Terry), Cecelia Anthony (Alan), Darla Boggs and Keith Black, Tina Moore (Chris); eleven grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren, and eight great-great-grandchildren. A funeral ceremony honoring Doris will take place at 2 PM on Saturday, May 18, 2024, at the First Baptist Church of Knoxville, Arkansas. Prior to the service, there will be a viewing from 1 PM to 2 PM. Doris will be laid to rest in the Knoxville Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Brandon Higgs, Alan Anthony, Erik Boggs, Kyle Boggs, Chris Moore, and Terry Argue, with Keith Black and Justin George as honorary pallbearers.
