Bobby Grotts Obituary Services to honor and celebrate the life of Bobby “Bob” Grotts will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, August 3, 2020 at RiverCrest Chapel, Bixby. Family will receive friends for visitation on Sunday afternoon from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. also at RiverCrest. Arrangements are under the direction of Bixby Funeral Service. Born November 16, 1942, in Celeste, Texas, Bobby Carroll Grotts was the son of Clyde Leon and Jimmie Lee (Canada) Grotts. Bobby would spend his early years in Texas but later moved with his family to Bixby when his father took a job working on Oral Roberts’ farm. Bobby would then attend Bixby Public Schools, where he played football and made many lifelong friends. He would graduate with the Class of 1960 before entering the United States Army. Most of Bob’s military service was spent in Neu-Ulm, Germany. There, he served in the 508th MP Unit. He would serve for nearly three years before being honorably discharged and would then return to the Tulsa area. In Tulsa, Bob would have a nearly 45-year career with W.C. Norris Manufacturing, where he worked as a machinist. During some down time, in those early years, Bob would cross paths with a pretty, single young lady named Peggy Roberts. The two each had their versions of how their story together began. Regardless, there is no dispute that the two were equally interested in one another. This interest quickly grew into something stronger, and on September 14, 1968, the couple said, “I do.” This relationship between husband and wife was one that others wanted to emulate. In fact, there may have been no higher compliment than when a woman once told Peggy, “You two are the couple that people love to hate. You can tell how much you love one another just by the way you look at each other.” Now, Bobby had his witty take on their relationship. Peggy would often tell him that he was a Godsend. He would reply with, “Well, why is God punishing ME?” Witty, stable, honest, loving, and a good guy are words that describe Bob. He was always willing to help others. This could be seen through his hobby of tinkering and fixing things. He also loved to garden, read, and to play spider solitaire on his tablet. In years past, he also enjoyed walking the river and an avid bicycle riding. Bob passed from this life on Monday, July 27, 2020. He was 77. He was preceded in death by his parents: his father, Clyde, and his mother, Jimmie; a sister, Charlotte Shanks, and a brother, Bill Grotts. He is survived by his wife, Peggy; step-son, Jeff Roberts; sister, Patsy Henderson; brothers-in-law: Billy Jo Haney and wife, Judy and Robert Haney and wife, Sue.
