Walter Lee Young

April 16, 1934 ~ June 12, 2020 (age 86)

On Friday, June 12, 2020, Walter Lee Young, passed away from complications due to Alzheimer's disease at the age of 86.

Lee was born on April 16, 1934, in Tulsa Oklahoma to Walter Leander Young and Fern Ellen Young. He received his undergraduate degree from Oklahoma University and his Masters in Business Administration from Harvard Business School in Cambridge, MA. He was married and divorced twice. Lee had three children: Amy, Caroline, and Tyler.

Lee was an avid athlete, excelling at each sport that he participated in. He particularly loved skiing, tennis, and golf. He took a wild ski trip to the Bugaboo Mountains in British Columbia, Canada, where he was dropped off by helicopter. A coffee table worthy bound book of pictures was created to document the trip. Lee and his second wife, Kit (Katherine Armstrong Young), took regular trips to Vermont in the winter, where they rented a ski house with friends. Amy, Caroline, and Tyler went on some of those fun trips. Sports were the main way that Lee connected with his children. He was willing to stop his stock market charting and watching TV sports for a game of tennis, paddle tennis, or hitting golf balls on the driving range. He was an avid reader and loved to take notes on the books he was reading and share about them, particularly at the All Soul’s Unitarian Church in Tulsa. He was very involved in their weekly adult education discussions.

Lee spent his professional career working as a portfolio manager for companies such as Exxon Mobil and Solomon Brothers. He spent many hours charting the stock market and creating what he called his Dividend Discount Model for predicting stock changes. He lived most of his adult life in New York City, and Bronxville, NY. Some of his fondest memories were spending time on Chappaquiddick Island in the summers with family and friends.

Lee was preceded in death by his mother and father. He is survived by his sister, Alice Teel, his three children, his niece, Tracy, and nephew, Andy, and his seven grandchildren: Megan, Diana, Dylan, Ryan, Isabelle, James, and William.

A Zoom funeral will be held on Saturday, June 20, 2020, at 4 pm for family and friends. Contact Amy Todisco ( to get the link.
