A home going celebration to honor and remember the life of Thomas Cletis "Tom" Cordrey will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, July 9, 2020 at the First Church Tulsa Hills. Family will receive friends for visitation beginning at 1:00 p.m. just prior to the service. Tom will be laid to rest in the Bixby Cemetery.
On January 2, 1939, in Bixby, Oklahoma, Thomas Cletis “Tom” Cordrey was the third of five boys born to Clem and Mollie (Shahan) Cordrey. Growing up in Bixby, Tom would help his parents and brothers on the land and the Cordrey family was even tasked with taking care of the Bixby Cemetery in those days.
Work was always a priority for Tom as he became his own boss as a heavy equipment operator and excavator. He completed this type of work for nearly 50 years before retirement. In his spare time, Tom could be found fishing or hunting. However, Sunday’s were reserved for the Lord’s Day as Tom loved his Lord and regularly attended the First Apostolic Church of Tulsa. Even nearing his last days, while living in Gracewood Nursing Center, Tom would preach to anyone who would listen. He did this until he knew his time on earth was coming to a close. He was sure to tell his loving wife of 34 years, Earline, that God was soon coming to take him Home.
Described as ambitious and adventurous, Tom was always ready to find someplace to go and something to do. He enjoyed going out to eat and was known to hinder others from eating their meals, at times, because he knew no stranger and enjoyed talking – even when the time was not just right!
It was on Sunday, July 5, 2020 that Tom went home to be with the Lord. He was 81. His family takes great comfort in knowing his battle is now won.
Survived by: his loving wife, Earline; daughter, Bridget Cordrey; grandchildren: Stevan William Cordrey and Brittani Cordrey; great-grandchildren: Teana and Cozella; nephew, C.J.; niece, Judy along with other family and friends.
