Robert Tennant Obituary
A memorial ceremony honoring Robert “Bob” Stewart Tennant, Jr. will be held 11 AM Tuesday, November 16 in the chapel at South Tulsa Baptist Church. Bob’s life will also be celebrated 6 PM Monday, November 15 at the Ti Amo Ristorante, 6024 S. Sheridan Road in Tulsa. He passed away October 26, 2021, also in Tulsa. Bob was 83 years old.
Born August 27, 1938 in Oklahoma City, OK., Bob was the son of Robert and Virginia (Cooter) Tennant. He was an avid golfer from an early age, attending North Texas University on a golf scholarship, where he set many records. The combination of Bob’s golf accomplishments landed him in the Texas Panhandle Hall of Fame in 1962. His golf career even made it to the PGA level where he won The Colonial Golf Tournament one year in a playoff; however, Bob decided to leave a life of golf and travel for an office job in the Oil & Gas Industry. He married Lynn Saunders in 1963.
Bob began working for Gulf Oil as a wholesale marketing representative for refined products. He would eventually move to Gulf's LPG division called Warren Petroleum shortly thereafter, where he worked his entire career in marketing and trading until his retirement in 2000. Gulf Oil was purchased by Chevron in 1985. Bob’s career led him to various destinations such as Lawton, OK, Jackson, MS, Houston, TX, and eventually Tulsa, OK.
Bob has held many, many country club titles through the years. In fact, too many to list! He loved animals of all kind, always complaining about stray dogs around his house. Nevertheless, Bob was always the first one to take them in and give them a home to live their best life!
A very strong Christian, Bob was a member of the South Tulsa Baptist congregation for 34 years. He also volunteered weekly at the John 3:16 Baptist Mission in North Tulsa.
Surviving family include his two children: son, Chris Tennant (wife Tara) and his daughter, Stacie Pitts (husband Rod); sister Martha Swearingen (husband Ray), and 3 grandsons: Drayton Tennant, Asher Tennant and Blake Pitts.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents and his loving wife of 49 years, Lynn Tennant in 2012.
