Robert Eugene Head was born November 4, 1941 in Blackwell, Oklahoma. Robert was the son of Robert Lee and Rhoda Mae (Raymon) Head. Robert grew up in the Sperry and Tulsa area, graduating from Tulsa Central High School in 1959. Robert had a lifelong love of sports. He played football, hockey, soccer, golf, and baseball. Baseball was his forte. He was scouted by the Cleveland Indians, but instead chose to enlist in the U.S. Army. While in the Army, Robert was stationed in Germany during the Berlin Crisis. His specialty was Ammo as well as playing sports. He was honorably discharged in 1962.
Robert met Marilyn Logsdon through mutual friends on a double date. They would marry on December 23, 1962 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Tulsa. The couple made the Tulsa area home where they would raise their three children near Bixby and Broken Arrow. He coached his son in wrestling, football, and baseball. He also helped coach his daughter’s softball team. Robert supported his family driving a truck. He primarily drove for Jones Truck Lines and Yellow Freight throughout his career.
Robert loved camping, fishing, and water skiing on the area lakes with his family and friends. Robert and Marilyn enjoyed riding motorcycles as well. He also took great pride in the upkeep of his lawn. He was jokingly called Hank Hill from “King of the Hill”. The kids often rode on the back of his mower with him. He also nurtured a vegetable garden with the help of the family. A sports fanatic, Robert was a diehard fan of the New York Yankees and the Oklahoma Sooners. He would spend time in his retirement years watching sports on TV. If there were no live sports on television, he would watch reruns on ESPN Classic. Robert also devoted his time to taking care of his son Bryan, who was disabled.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Marilyn; his children, Michele Chissoe and her husband, Aaron, and Mandy Stiles and her husband, Jeremy; his grandchildren, Kevin, Kurtis, Katlyn, Benjamin, Tatum and Tori; as well as his brother, Ronnie Head. Robert was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Bryan, and grandson, Blake.
