Bob passed away Wednesday morning, June 17, 2020 at his Bixby residence. He was 75.
Born November 20, 1944 in Camden, New Jersey, Bob was the son of Walter and Grace (Briody) Block. Bob loved speedsters, roadsters, and all types of cars with muscle throughout his youth. He enlisted in the U.S. Army on April 25, 1967 and was extremely proud of his service to his country. While in the service, he earned the nickname “Mighty Mouse” for his incredible strength at 5’8” and 120 lbs.
Bob married Dorothy Stevenson on May 7, 1966 in the Bethany Presbyterian Church in Haddon Heights, New Jersey. They knew each other from childhood, growing up seven doors away from each other on a beautiful cul de sac street. Bob and Dorothy started dating at the age of 17.
Professionally and personally, Bob always completed tasks and repaired things properly. He started his career with Sun Oil Company where he was employed as a design engineer for over 18 years. Following a layoff, he worked for Advanced Transportation as a moving coordinator. Bob completed his career and retired as the Facilities Manager for Main Line Health, where he was over the maintenance of 7 hospitals.
Bob was the most caring person you could ever know, always putting other people’s needs before his own. He was a volunteer fireman for the Verga Volunteer Fire Department in Westville, New Jersey. When the sirens sounded, Bob was nowhere to be found. He saved countless lives through the years and as an EMT, delivered several newborn babies. Bob served as President of the fire department for several years in the 1970’s. Wherever he lived, Bob was a life devoted to his community and to serving others.
A strong man of faith, Bob served in the choir at Bethany Presbyterian Church. It was there that he also served as an elder, a deacon, and an usher. He was also a diehard Philadelphia Eagles football fan. Their recent Super Bowl win brought tears to his eyes.
Bob loved spending time at their place in Cape May. He cherished his time spent fishing there for anything that would jump on the hook! Most of all, Bob was a wonderful husband, father, and Pop-Pop. He will be dearly missed by a close family who loved him.
