Phyllis Irene Mulkey

Phyllis Irene Mulkey passed away Thursday, September 3, 2021 at Hillcrest Hospital South in Tulsa. She was 63 years old. Born December 26, 1957 in Chicago, Phyllis was raised near Schell City, Missouri where she grew up with a devout Mennonite family among 11 children. She worked hard helping with their dairy as well as their grade school.

Phyllis was an athlete, participating in basketball and softball when she was in town. She was well known to be the “clean-up” batter when she stepped up to home plate and the bases were loaded. Phyllis graduated from high school in Schell City with the Class of 1977.

Following high school, Phyllis attended Tulsa Junior College where she received her Medical Assistant training. She was employed by Saint Francis Health System and the Springer Clinic for most of her career in healthcare. Phyllis was always a hard worker and very disciplined, often working 2 or 3 jobs to support her beloved family. She always taught her children responsibility and kept them involved in church activities. Phyllis always ensured that her children prioritized their educations.

While attending the Bixby Free Will Baptist Church, Phyllis met and married Eddie Mulkey. Phyllis accepted Eddie’s daughter, Stacey as her own from the very beginning. The couple built a beautiful life together raising six children and then several foster children once they became “empty nesters.”

Phyllis and Eddie spent most of their retirement years on a small farm near Haskell. It was there they raised cattle and chickens. Phyllis always loved chickens - especially when decorating her kitchen! She loved working in her yard and mowing it to perfection. Her strong will kept her going through multiple surgeries and hip replacements through the years.

Phyllis was a devout Christian throughout her lifetime and knew Jesus as her King and Savior. She will be forever remembered by a host of family and friends who loved her.

Surviving family members include her husband, Eddie Mulkey; her children, Wannette Kudirka, Stacey Stickler (Alex), Calvin Mulkey, Ethan Mulkey (Kayla), Catherine Mulkey, and Abigail Mulkey; her grandchildren, Keely Dyer, Bailey Dyer, Kaia Dyer, Xhane Mullings, Christian Stickler, and Jenna Stickler; and her great grandson, Dreyven Mullings.

Services honoring and remembering Phyllis will be held 10:00 AM Thursday, September 9, 2021 at the Rivercrest Chapel and Event Center in Bixby. Interment will follow in the Bixby Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 6-8 PM Wednesday, also at Rivercrest. Arrangements have been entrusted to Bixby-South Tulsa Funeral Service.
