A funeral ceremony honoring and remembering Phyllis Morton will be held 2 PM Thursday, August 24, 2023 in the Chapel of South Tulsa Baptist Church. The family will receive friends in the Fellowship Hall following the ceremony. A private interment will be held in Floral Haven Memorial Gardens. Phyllis went to Heaven on Saturday, August 19, 2023. She was 91 years old.
Born June 2, 1932 in St. Louis, Missouri, Phyllis was the daughter of Kenny and Lula Mae Powless. She attended the Salem Community High School in Salem, Illinois, where she graduated with the Class of 1950. Phyllis married Norman Morton November 11, 1952 at the First Baptist Church, also in Salem.
The young couple took the step of faith and headed to Oklahoma. They lived in Stillwater where Phyllis worked as a secretary while Norman studied in the College of Engineering at Oklahoma State University. It was certainly Phyllis' hard work in the office that paid for Norman's college tuition. She was a dedicated wife to Norman for almost 72 years. From this union were born two children, Malinda and Kevin.
Phyllis and Norman were faithful members of South Tulsa Baptist Church for over 30 years. She loved serving as a Sunday School teacher, a Candy Striper at Saint Francis Hospital, and many other volunteer activities. Phyllis leaves behind a host of family and friends to cherish her memory.
Surviving family include her husband, Norman Morton; two children: Kevin Morton and his wife Carolyn, and Malinda Crall and her husband, Steve; her grandchildren, Catherine Morton, James Morton and his wife, Madison, Christal Lynch and her husband, Ryan, and Christine Taylor and her husband, Zach; great grandchildren: Everly, Isaiah, Caden, Madi, and Ella; and her two sisters: Brenda Farrell and her husband, Terry, and Myrna Koenegstein.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents.
