A service celebrating the lives of Peter and Maureen Maroney will be held 2 PM, Monday, Sept 21, 2020, at the Christian Chapel in Tulsa. Interment will follow in the Bixby Cemetery. Peter passed away Friday, August 21, 2020, and Maureen passed away Wednesday, April 8, 2020, both at the Prairie House Assisted Living in Broken Arrow. They were both 82 years of age.
Peter Fredrick Maroney was born on February 10, 1938, in Skipton-Yorkshire, England, the only son of John Maurice and Alice Mary (Dibb) Maroney. Peter was educated at Ermysted’s Grammar School, which was founded in 1492. He completed his education and training at the Hull Technical College and participated in the Royal Observer Corps in World War II, something of which he was quite proud. He was recruited to join a team in America in 1967 to assist in designing the undercarriage of a bomber. Peter then accepted a position at Crane Carrier Co. in Tulsa, Oklahoma, where he retired from a 25-year career as a managerial engineer in 1998. When he wasn't traveling all over the world with CCC, he was leading a bible study group (Alpha), starting the Bixby Soccer club, biking and running local races, greeting at church, or watching a John Wayne classic. He was used by the Lord to mentor and influence so many for His Kingdom.
Born March 31, 1938, in Hull East Yorkshire, England, Maureen Ellen was the youngest of four children born to Arthur and Hilda Ellen (Cook) Cross. After meeting at work, Peter asked her to dance at a work function. Two years later, on August 6, 1960, they were married. Their two boys came four and six years later. When John Michael was 2, they all moved to America. Maureen stayed home and raised the boys, grew closer to her Lord, hosted a boys scouts group, and taught water aerobics. After surviving the tragic loss of their son Stephen in 1985, Maureen went to TJC to become an interpreter for the deaf. She worked for several years as an interpreter for Oral Roberts University and Edison Middle School in Tulsa. She was a talented quilter and avid knitter. They raised several sweet pups and served endless cups of tea. She had a smile and a smirk no matter what she walked through, and loved life. She mentored many and loved all. Mo, as many called her, was the hands and feet for the Lord till her last breath.
Surviving family members include their three granddaughters, Heather Davis, Jennifer Stout, and Ashley Hammond; daughter-in-law, Maria Settles, her husband, Daniel Settles; and children - Elisia, April, Joey, and David; five great-grandchildren, Caleb, Simon, Evelyn, Lillian, and Declan; and Jessie, their wonderful dog who brought them such joy and comfort. Peter and Maureen were preceded in death by their two sons, John Michael, and Stephen Edward Maroney.
"Well done, My good and faithful servants. Share in My joy!" Matthew 25: 23, 34
