Marilyn Wyrick Obituary

Marilyn Jean Wyrick, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, peacefully passed away on January 30, 2024, at the age of 96.

Born in St. Louis on October 23, 1927, she was the youngest of five children. Marilyn, affectionately known as Jean, faced early challenges with the loss of her father at the age of 12. Undeterred, she left school at 14 to help support her family with the absence of her brothers serving during World War II.

At the age of 19, Jean's life took a beautiful turn when she met Warren V. Wyrick at a local dance. The couple married on February 8, 1947, and built a life together that would include two children, Sandra "Sandi" and Warren Jr. "Butch."

Jean's early career was with Missouri Insurance until the birth of her son, at which point she dedicated herself to raising her children. Her love for others extended beyond her family, as she found joy in volunteering at Normandy Hospital, where she worked in the gift shop, assisted with patient check-ins, and other various needs.

Known for her enthusiasm for life, Jean was an avid square dancer and won numerous competitions alongside her husband. Their matching outfits, sewn by Jean's mother, showcased the love and unity of their partnership. Always up for an adventure, she enjoyed taking trips with her dear friends, Jean and Betsy.

Twelve years ago, Jean moved to Bixby to be closer to her daughter. In this new chapter of her life, she discovered a passion for jewelry making and reading, achieving the impressive feat of reading 100 books in a single year. Jean had a particular fondness for old movies, with a special love for anything featuring Elizabeth Taylor.

A skilled cook and baker, Jean's warm and affectionate nature touched the lives of everyone she encountered. Her legacy lives on through her surviving family members: daughter, Sandra "Sandi" and son-in-law, James "Jim" Stevenson; son, Warren Wyrick, Jr. "Butch" and daughter-in-law, Kathy; six grandchildren, Alisan "Ali" and husband, Eric Abercrombie, Carri and husband, Sebastien Roegiers, Traci and husband, Corey Chandler, James "Jay" and Bethany Stevenson, Nikki and husband, Michael Heitmann, and Lisa and husband, Kyle Cannon; and 17 great-grandchildren, Kyndel, Rowyn, Weber, Brecken, Sawyer, Harper, Tatum, McKenna, Finley, Shepherd, Eden, Miles, Warren, Hadley, Lainey, Kolby, and Livie.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, and her beloved husband, Warren V. Wyrick, Sr. She leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and a zest for life that will be cherished by all who were fortunate enough to know her.

May she rest in peace, surrounded by the eternal love she so generously shared with others.
