Lori Maisch Obituary

Lori Beth Maisch passed away April 3, 2023 at Saint Francis Hospital in Tulsa. She was 60 years old. Lori was born December 22, 1962 in Fort Dodge, Iowa. She was the daughter of Gorden and Gloria (Gregoire) Maisch. Interment will take place in the Bluff View Cemetery in Vermillion, South Dakota.

Lori held her Bachelor of Science from the University of Nebraska - Kearney. She was employed as a medical recruiter for many years. Lori loved her work and made friends everywhere she went because of her kindness and genuine interest in people. She had a great sense of humor enjoyed by all of her friends. Lori has worked at Provider Solutions & Development (PS&D) since September, 2021. She was hands down one of the most caring and dedicated, people-focused recruiters I have ever known but it didn't end there. Lori was steadfast in her caring of her colleagues, who also considered her a friend. She checked in on so many, some because she sensed they needed it, some just because she wanted to.

Lori always had two dogs which helped to dispel loneliness, but also provide companionship and safety for her as she lived alone in a beautiful home in Jenks, Oklahoma. She was known to take long walks with her beloved dogs, Sam and Zoey, twice a day. Her nephew, Jacoby, was the apple of her eye.

After being diagnosed as a type 1 diabetic, 15 years ago, she started the T1 Tulsa support group which grew to have many members who were like family and friends to her. She was very dedicated to helping each one in any way she could. She was very generous with her time and attention to any concerns.

Lori's sense of humor was never expected which always made it somehow that much better. Her delivery and ability to do so via camera (remote work!) was uncanny and admirable.

All of these things don't begin to even touch the surface of all she contributed as we heard about her elderly neighbor, as well as her passion for animals and rescue groups.

She struggled, mightily with the all-consuming diagnosis having developed it in her mid 40's. A group dedicated to ADULTS with T1DM did not exist in Tulsa, so she researched and started one. The T1 Tulsa Network was formed as a group dedicated strictly to adults living with T1DM. A group that helps to bring people together with a common incurable disease. Lori initiated the group and reached out through various organizations to promote it. She became well known to the Northeastern Oklahoma Diabetes Educators, as a lay member, desiring to constantly learn and want to help them and thus herself and others with her diabetes. She was a great source of help to many of those who are living with T1DM. Lori promoted the group so that they could feel confident to openly, discuss concerns and ask questions, thus constantly learning from one another.

Lori was able to come to know the benefits of ever evolving technology in caring for her diabetes. She worked closely with her endocrinologist Dr. Andrew Khouw, MD, Saint Francis Warren Clinic Endocrinology and the diabetes educators with the Warren Clinic Adult Diabetes Center. Lori was not afraid to ask questions and let her concerns be made known. She was a highly intelligent & compassionate woman. She was able to work from home as a physician recruiter for various organizations. Lori was a wonderful listener and had a curious mind. She cared deeply about others and wanted to see the best in them. She was a leader. She was not afraid to speak up for herself, and for others in her struggle with T1DM.

Lori had many friends that will remember her and her legacy. She will be sorely missed but fondly remembered.
It is a great comfort to know that in heaven, diabetes does not exist. Lori is alive and well, her big smile ever present.

Surviving family members include her sister, Ann Maisch; sister-in-law Julia; and her nephew, Jacoby Maisch.
