A funeral ceremony honoring Juanita Earline Cheney will be held Friday, September 8th at 10:00 AM. at the Carbondale Church of Christ. Juanita passed away Tuesday, September 5, 2023 in Broken Arrow. She was 94 years old.
Born January 14, 1929, in Osage County near the community of Fairfax, Juanita was the daughter of Earl and Iva (Hoover) Chitwood. The daughter of a sharecropper in the Great Depression era, Juanita learned about hard work at an early age. She always had a chore list including picking cotton barefoot in the summer. She completed her schooling in Ralston, Oklahoma, and, years later, attended York College in Nebraska.
Following high school, Juanita gained employment as a typist, while living with her grandmother and aunt in Oklahoma City. Juanita was eventually hired by John Cheney as a secretary for Boeing Company in Wichita, Kansas. John and Juanita became a couple and were married January 9, 1954, in Hutchinson, Kansas. Juanita worked at Boeing for over a decade. They had three children: David, Toni, and Janice. She loved her family dearly.
By the teaching of her beloved grandmother, Juanita became a Christian at the age of 14 at a gospel meeting. Through the years, Juanita was actively involved with various congregations in several states which concluded with the Carbondale Church of Christ in Tulsa where she was a member for about 30 years. She was a woman of faith and prayer and brought many others to Christ.
Surviving family include her son, Joseph "David" Harp and wife, Marcella of Tulsa; daughter Janice Schow and husband, Randy of Longmont, Colorado; her grandchildren, Joey Harp, Dianna Harp, Heather Elias, Denver Schow, Abby Mears, Jordan Schow, John Lujan and Michael Christainsen; great grandchildren, Avery, Max, Daniel, Nathan, Spencer, Trevor, Rawley, Brynlee, Bristol, Bridger, Idris, Taylor, Joshua, Hannah and Abigail; and her sister, Kathy Savage.
Juanita was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her daughter, Toni McDaniel; four brothers and two sisters.
