Born January 20, 2002, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Josh was the son of Maria Chairez and Alvino Mares. Growing up in and attending schools in Glenpool and Bixby, Josh was a 2020 graduate of Bixby High School. His favorite activities included playing video games, driving gas powered remote-controlled cars, and watching boxing. Playing or watching soccer were also things that brought Josh joy - his favorite soccer team being Real Madrid and his hero was soccer player, Christiano Ronaldo.
Josh could be shy, if he didn’t know you well, but quickly became the life of the party. It seems that from an early age, Josh was a bit sensitive and “He did not enjoy hearing the word, No,” said his mother. Once Josh was well-acquainted with you, he could be described as adventurous, goofy, and easy-going. This could be seen as he went right along with most of his girlfriend’s, Lilyan, schemes! Now Josh’s sister, Ollie, described him as a little cranky – especially if one began messing with his extensive, well-organized shoe collection.
Having a great fear of heights, Josh was ironically employed as a scaffolder. He seemed to have a way of overcoming his fears. However, his plans for the future included a venture in horticulture.
Josh, his mother, and his sister enjoyed many trips to Mexico to see grandparents, cousins, and other relatives. His heritage certainly played a part in his enjoying to eat enchiladas, tamales, chile rellenos, and tacos al pastor. It was at Lilyan’s house where he formed a love of her mom’s sweet tea!
It was too sudden that Josh was taken from this earth. His family and friends will greatly miss him and will be looking forward to a day when they can be reunited in Heaven. Josh passed from this life on November 10, 2021. He was 19.
He is survived by his mother, Maria Chairez; sister, Ollie Mares; two nephews, whom will miss their Uncle Josh a lot!: Ismael and Zultan Lopez; maternal grandmother, Juana Soto; his girlfriend, Lilyan Alvarado and family along with his best friends: Demetrius Bernal and Jerry Quiroz.
