Jeanette Sessom passed away peacefully Wednesday afternoon, August 19, 2020, at her Bixby residence in the presence of loved ones. Memorial service arrangements are pending with Bixby Funeral Service.
Born June 13, 1940, in Emhouse, Texas, Jeanette was the youngest of Hugh and Ollie Parrish’s nine children. She would spend her early years on the family farm, and at the age of 8, they moved to Corsicana, Texas. Jeanette graduated from Corsicana High School in 1958 and began working in the engineering department of Southwestern Bell.
Following high school, Jeanette worked at a local insurance agency, in addition to a couple of other clerical jobs. It was during this time that her brother Benny introduced her to Charlie Sessom, a football player at Navarro Junior College. Jeanette and Charlie were married in 1959 and moved to Winnsboro, Texas, where Charlie was a coach and history teacher. They were married for 59 years.
In Winnsboro, Jeanette worked for Craddock & Co. Insurance Agency. Jeanette & Charlie moved to Sulphur Springs, Texas, where Charlie was a coach and teacher. Jeanette worked for Avenger Insurance Agency. In January of 1970, Jeanette and Charlie’s son Wade was born. In the summer of 1970, Jeanette, Charlie, and Wade moved to Whitewright, Texas, where Charlie became head football coach and athletic director. They joined the First United Methodist Church in Whitewright. Through the years, Jeanette and Charlie were involved in all aspects of the church. Jeanette taught classes and served on every board.
As the wife of a football and track coach, Jeanette supported Charles in every capacity. She washed uniforms and organized track meets, always putting the needs of others above her own. Jeanette eventually earned her college degree in Elementary Education from East Texas State University. She taught Fourth Grade and Kindergarten collectively for over thirty years.
Jeanette and Charles moved to Tulsa in 1997 to be nearer their son and grandchildren. They became actively involved with the Mariner’s Sunday School Class at the Asbury United Methodist Church.
Jeanette was put on this earth to be a grandmother! She adored her twin grandchildren, Avery and Karsten, from the day they were born. Jeanette loved to play golf, go camping and fishing, and travel to outdoor destinations such as Branson, Broken Bow, and Beaver’s Bend. A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, Jeanette’s memory will be eternal in the hearts of many friends and family who cherished her.
Survivors include her son, Wade Sessom of Bixby; her twin grandchildren, Karsten and Avery Sessom, both of Stillwater; her brother, Benny Parrish, and wife, Sylvia and her sister, JoAnn Dotter and husband, Bud. Jeanette was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and six other siblings.
