Janet Louise Brackeen

Janet Louise Brackeen will lie in state from 4-8 PM Thursday and Friday in the Rivercrest Chapel. Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Bixby-South Tulsa Funeral Service and Crematory. Janet passed away Tuesday evening, November 14, 2023 at Hillcrest Medical Center South in Tulsa. She was 69 years old.


Born February 2, 1954 in Shawnee, Oklahoma, Janet was the daughter of Howard Bobby Gene and Lena Mae (McCullan) Woodward. She was raised in Shawnee, graduating with the Class of 1972.


Following high school, Janet completed cosmetology school in Sand Springs. During her early years, Janet attended the First United Pentecostal Church in Shawnee, as well as Sand Springs.


Janet was a longtime well-respected employee of Wal-Mart for many years. She served the company in several capacities, both at the store on Memorial as well as the Neighborhood Market on Peoria. Janet loved her job, but most of all, she loved her customers. She always had a special story to share about them.


Janet loved all of her family dearly. An animal lover, Janet cared for every stray creature that came along, especially the kitty cats! She also really enjoyed spending time in her flower and vegetable gardens. The Oklahoma State Cowboys lost one of their biggest fans in Janet Brackeen. May her memory be eternal in the hearts of all who loved her.


Surviving family include her two daughters, Tabitha Hewitt and her husband, Doug and Tamara Harris and her husband, Paul; her grandchildren: Desiree Brown, Maegan Hewitt, Tyler George, Michael George, Douglas Hewitt Jr., and McKenna Hewitt; her great grandchildren: Paul Brown, Jr. Ares Brown, and Mayzlee Brown; and her two sisters: Donna Case and Teresa Snider and husband, Mick.
