A Celebration of Life honoring and remembering Janet Kay Chastain will be held 12:30 PM Friday, August 4, 2023 in the Rivercrest Chapel in Bixby, followed by interment in the Calvary Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Thursday evening at Bixby-South Tulsa Funeral Service. Jan passed away Sunday, July 30, 2023 in Tulsa. She was 72 years old.
Born March 8, 1951 in Kansas City, Missouri, Jan was the daughter of Wilton "Woody" and Agnes Marie (Tarkington) Chastain. The daughter of a minister and educator, Jan was raised in Missouri, Arkansas, and Illinois. At the age of 5, she gave her life to Christ, and remained a devoted Christian throughout her lifetime. Jan graduated from Parkview High School in Springfield, Missouri with the Class of 1969.
Jan's career with the railroad brought her to Tulsa, where she would meet Vernon in 1970. From this union were born two children, Amber and Brad. Jan was a wonderful mother, cook, and homemaker, actively involved in her children's lives, as well as devoted to her church family. There was never a day in her children's lives where they doubted how much she loved them. The same was true about Jan's grandchildren.
Jan later met Chuck and she cherished the many memories made along with his son, Brandon. They enjoyed spending time together wherever life would take them. Both Chuck and Vernon remained a part of Jan's life until the day she died. Jan's friend, Peggy, became like a sister to her. Jan was grateful for Peggy's devotion, especially towards the end of her life.
God, family, and friends were truly the joys of Jan Chastain's life! May her memory be eternal in the hearts of all who loved her.
Surviving family include her children, Amber and her husband, Alan, and Brad and his wife, Carrie; and her grandchildren, Alana, Alyssa, Hunter, Cameron, and Christian.
Jan was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Anita; and her grandson, Tyler.
