James A. Tyer passed away early Friday morning, November 19, 2021 at Saint Francis Hospital in Tulsa. He was 96 years old.
Born March 3, 1925 in Jenks, James was the son of James M. and Edythe I. Tyer. He played football for the Jenks Trojans where he graduated from high school. James was drafted by the U.S. Army. He served honorably, receiving a Bronze Star in World War II.
James studied engineering in college, earning his Associate’s degree. He owned and operated Tyer’s Construction Company for many years, building roads throughout the state of Oklahoma. James enjoyed fishing and boating at the lake, as well the time he spent at the local Elk’s Lodge.
Surviving family members include his son, Bob Tyer and daughter, Ann Sparks; his grandchildren, Mitchell Tyer and wife, Vanessa, Courtney Rospos and her husband, Nicholas, Sean Day and his wife, Diana, and Kara Hopkins; his great-grandchildren, Avery Tyer, Barron Tyer, Nathan Day, and Connor Sittel.
A graveside ceremony honoring James’ life will be held 2 PM Tuesday, November 23, 2021 at Memorial Park Cemetery in Tulsa. The family will receive visitors from 6-8 PM Monday at Bixby-South Tulsa Funeral Service.
